What a loving album. What a self loving sound. I showered, danced, moisturized. I smell of roses.

Getz/Gilberto
Stan Getz+João Gilberto
Cashmere spills
drips into the drink
which glassmouth I rim
with my fingers skim
Pelvises twist
to the trough and crest
of moon wave wisp
among clefs and sheets
Rose water puddles
upon the stream
mirror the self
as I crawl in his bed
I understand this is a popular album. The music is so fun and layered. Morrissey is deeply annoying, though. I found him to be whining throughout rather than singing.
I can’t believe this is their only album to reach number one despite so many other works of theirs being much better in my opinion.
By the end of it, I appreciated it for what it is. It’s a rebellious album that perhaps speaks to its time and in some ways ours.
Again, the music is saucy and I enjoyed that. I hated the singing. Didn’t save any songs to my liked songs. Except for the Joke Isn’t Funny Anymore which I had already saved previously. The last three songs were really good too, just nothing I would want to return on a non-intentional basis.

Meat Is Murder
The Smiths
gears grind, go growl
god,
guard us un-godly ghouls
guppies grown in greed
grant us greater game against the
grisly grime of the governing gentry
I love a good play on words so I was happy to listen to the opener; it won’t be long till i belong.
Initially, I liked that the songs were short in length but then it started to feel like some songs lacked any introduction. All my loving and Don’t bother me felt like two different versions of the same song.
The sound thus kind of got too repetitive throughout. It’s a nice dance record with lots of songs that are able to stand out as songs you’d want to dance to and jive. It is just musically conservative in that sense.
This is giving me the impression that the album was rushed, especially knowing it’s their second album following their crazy debut.
Till There Was You is such a beautiful song!
Loved the Mr. Postman cover too. It matched the theme of longing and desperation of the previous tracks.
Yet, in a way, you wouldn’t really be able to tell that this is a beatles album from any other band from that time, which is funny considering its title.
—— POEM ——
greens of orange and yellow
sprout where your petals kiss mine
greys jive across to blues down the teleline
red is the white I chew and swallow
pink in the skin is a world full of horror
true is the color
ought you stay my lover
The better the music gets, the more racist Morrissey gets, and the sassier he is.
There are many enjoyable songs on here with lots of humor that makes Morrissey’s whining slightly
more tolerable than on Meat Is Murder.
Girlfriend in a Comma is iconic and funny. I loved it on San Junipero. Last Night I dreamt is one of their most remarkable songs.
—— Poem ——
Could we not have done without you, followed by a question mark that I lost rolling my eyes backwards into my skull, the skull into which I wish to roll, past your button lusting punches, which have turned my tongue muscles sore. sore tongue muscles have now punched every last button of my skull’s prose through my eyes, a proclamation of sorts, you could have done without this, don't you now know, followed by a question mark now I hope.
I have not listened to Micheal a lot throughout my life less the hits. So, I was really excited to get this album. I don’t think I know any song on the track list previously, so I’m going in blind.
First Listen:
Already, the first song has me grooving and wanting to dance. I love how it starts spoken and just drops into a sick dance beat. Can’t believe this was made in the 70s? It sounds so fresh. The layers of the vocals are great.
I like how he slowed down into the second song. I’m realizing how much influence he’s had just by listening. I’ve definitely heard this before.
I like that the same overall sound is carrying the album throughout the different songs. Off the Wall and Get on the Floor do not stand out to me that much, tho.
She’s out of my hands is a good song but it was such a sudden turn. Think we could’ve done without it to be honest!
Fun fun listen.
Second Listen:
Wow! what a work of art! truly! The songs that stood out on the first listen are even better a second time.
Working Day and Night reminded me of Beyoncé’s Blow.
She’s out of my life - saved to my likes. It caught me off guard the first time but it’s such a sweet sweet and emotional song. His voice is beautiful. This might make me a fan. Reminded me of Celine’s It’s All Coming Back to Me Now.
---- POEM ----
incautionary tale—crowded metropolia
rebuilt in the memory of Summer’s heat
dermis of my lips caught in another’s teeth
quench of youth’s need—burnt, buried, resurrected—within the cracks of concrete
laughter, warm, still
bouncing off the echoes
caught in the loops
the kids run in the streets
dread,
I must unheed,
the stories choose to repeat.
I love an album that tells a story from start to finish. I also love Sheffield for personal reasons so this may be biased.
The party crazed youth reeks all over this record, and I adore it.
The preparation to get to the party. Eyeing someone at the dance floor. Chatting another up. Dancing all night. Taking someone home. Watching others fight with the police. Trying to get into the club but you’re too drunk. so you go home. getting home and you’re coming down arguing with your girl and your mates. Then watching the city wake up and feeling smite, maybe shame. Maybe hope. maybe love.
Consistent album, youthful, fun, social commentary, true to Sheffield. What more could you ask?
Might be my first 5/5.

Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not
Arctic Monkeys
Underneath the layer of repaint
amidst the stacks of thrifted jeans
across from the bars in the boroughs
atop all seven of your hills
adrift your quiet streams
through West, Ecclesall, Birkindale, and
all the other streets in between,
I had planted pieces of me;
hoping they’d pair with the kindness of fate
feed off the strength of youth’s dream
and the quiet understanding of what must—eventually—be released
so that miles into today,
away from your greens and steel
I may unravel into the man reborn in your fields
Pre listen:
This is the first album I get that I know absolutely nothing about. Nothing about the musician, nothing about the work itself, none of the songs. I’m excited.
———
Deeply well composed music, layered, and well written. I’m enjoying Roll Plymouth Rock.
———
Old Master Painter X You are my Sunshine - that’s creative.
———
Wonderful is the peak thus far. It wrapped the album in the psychedelic mood the previous songs were reaching for. love how it blended into the next track.
———
ok but how many times can you say father in one album?
———
the more i listen the more it sounds like a deconstruction of a musical. i sort of just want it to be over.
——-
yeah this got annoying. the father is the child and he is the man and the child is the child. and the music is cartoonish but there is no clear direction of where it’s going. and the father is the father of the child. child.
musically, it’s fun but it’s not something i think i would ever listen to again.
———
Mrs. O’Leary’s Cow was crazy tho lol. That’s fun.
I was excited for Good Vibrations - but it’s soooo loud.
Idk! feeling so many mixed things
POEM:
Brian Wilson Presents Smile
Brian Wilson
He was much more unique than the other guys
A mechanical canine
if you see him, you might be in for a big surprise
(These things happen all the time)
The doom and gloom up in his room
Is broken instantly (These things happen all the time)
And you don't know where you are now
Seeing trouble
from a distance
It was then that he knew what he had to do
(These things happen all the time)
creepy stuff happens in nowhere
(These things happen all the time)
If nautical nonsense be something you wish
We got the world to see
So many things to do and not much time
(These things happen all the time)
You and me,
Heroes in a half shell
One is a genius, the other's insane
Just know that I am on my way
I know somehow we're gonna get there (These things happen all the time)
But you might find out it'll go to your head
(These things happen
The end will no doubt justify the means all the time)
A complete blind listen. what a cool cover.
——
I like Sparks a lot. saved. such good music.
——
I get that it’s a story, and while I usually appreciate a story narrated in song across a complete album, this one seems so direct and straight to the point. It’s not hidden within the music. The songs don’t stand out on their own. It feels like a musical. Reminded me of wicked, even, not musically but story wise.
—
The Acid Queen was kind of disappoint for such a cool title. people in the 60s were definitely weird man! I enjoyed the outro a lot tho.
Underture, saved. The music is great. it’s the lyrics that are bothering me i think.
——
I cringed at Miracle Cure.
I'm free may be the only song with singing that's actually good and that may stand as a song on its own.
________________
I really wanted to like it but realllllly did not get the appeal. Surely there are better albums that could've made the list.
This (Tommy's Holiday Camp) is genuinely horrible.
Glad it's about to end! 7 more minutes...
_______________
So happy it's over. Can't believe the generator gave me this after brian wilson presents smile. two messy albums trying to tell a lame story in a row. oh god.

Another blind listen. Album title and cover are really cool.

Okayyy music is groovy and layered. I love his accent.
i’m listening as my husband lays asleep next to me, so the opening track is really making me feel some sort of way.
It’s not my cup of tea per se but it’s reallly fun.
___________________________
Despite the fact that most of Ian's singing is really him speaking, it's quite nice. He's got a soothing voice, and his accent is really great.
__________________________
Billericay Dickie is too folky for me.
___________________________
Many of the songs in the middle sound the same, to be honest.
Woah the breakdown at the end of If I was with a woman is amazing!!
______________________
What a turn into blockheads. the farting sounds were genuinely disturbing. it's giving being drunk as fuck so I guess its doing what its meant to.
________________
The album started off more promising then it just kept getting crazier and not in a way that I am able to appreciate.

over so quick!
I appreciate it for what it is, a funky punk rock expression of what white british man pub life was like in the late 70s. but it does not speak to anything meaningful or interesting enough to warrant listening ever again.
I enjoyed the opening track but nothing more as a full track.

I’m loving the repetitive sounds of Drivin and Australia. Really good.
———
This was a very fun listen.
It felt very mature and ripe. The songs were fresh and unique, yet there is a musical theme across all that ties the work together.
I enjoyed it.
there were many creative moments that took the unexpected route and in a successful manner.
and great politics!

Poem:
I find night lost in a day
the blindsiding crime committing side
of time and space
the hunger that promises to meet
you, swerve you
at every other of life’s curb
THE ROAD IS CLOSED TODAY,
GO
FIGURE IT OUT FOR YOURSELF, TODAY.
I forgot it was June the twenty first
could not start in time my chase of
the never ending horizon
of summer’s tail
Blind listen.
Love the opening track. it reeks of a kind of hope that doesn’t exist during our day and age. kind of got really sad listening.
Graceland is so beautiful. It’s so cute and sweet and soft.
I’m enjoying the blend of different sounds and cultures. It’s working well.
African Skies is one of the best songs I’ve ever heard.

This was a weird ass opening. Saved. Quite eerie.
I’m obsessed two tracks in. I saved the album already.

Come him,
scaled down to the skeletal
skinned out the only eye that sees
clutter in the periphery dances, fades
along the lines of the nerves and

the child’s caricatures puzzled through the hood
they chorus mysteries
the acid of the tummy extends its arms
for the door that lets them back in
So excited for my first Bjork album. Moments of clarity are so rare. I must document this.
i just love how she rides the words with her vocals. show me arespawwaaact a respaaaaect. ugh. so good.
her lyricism is godly.
history of touches = peak. it is peak experience. i can log off now.
A lot of true sound got repetitive because of the fact that it stuck too closely to the intended theme. I still appreciate that tho. The music did take unexpected turns electronically too which was amazing and raw. It’s crazy to think this came out in 2015 when most music was notoriously horrible (see: Madonna - Rebel Heart).
I really did enjoy this. especially the violins and the electronics.
—— Poem ——
Reach with your unwashed hands into the crevis of my chest
play around with the tendons of my heart
sooth yourself to the sound of their vibrato
give me the anesthetic
tell me this is what makes you happy.
let this be all.
sweet good paul mccartney the only beatle that matters music.
i saw blue bird and black bird kissing btw.
it’s a great album. it’s very pop and commercial imo which isn’t bad at all but it just means it doesn’t stand out to me. it’s not the type of album that will change your life and view of the world. which is okay. it’s a good casual listen. i can out it on in the background, on a drive, while I make food. that’s good music. it’s not show stopping. but it’s good.
Let me Roll It is my favorite. I enjoyed Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five a whole lot.

Let’s get jazzy and blue-y with it.
I liked this. Obviously it’s iconic work that has stood the test of time and its influence is undeniable. BUT it did get a bit too repetitive for something titled ‘The Genius of Ray Charles’.

i really don’t like this band man. they are peak mediocrity.
‘the song is over’ was good.
this is at least better than whatever tommy was.
i had to keep switching between the normal version and the deluxe trying to figure out which has a shorter original set list so i can get this done with.
so glad it’s over.

I enjoyed this piece of work. I don’t think I have listened to Senegalese music before. It was beautiful. It did get repetitive and was a bit too long. perhaps it’s the language barrier. but it’s good music full of emotion and community.

As someone who loves the Front Bottoms, this was surprisingly pleasant to come across on this list. I love silly messy music that is very well written and poorly sung with passion and emotion.
I think I will enjoy this just listening to the first few seconds of the first track.
i wish i knew of this album when i was 16.

there is the itch of a knife
below the last rib
behind whatever organ there is
I cannot reach it, no matter which way I bend
I tear apart my skin
Dig with my nails
Invite men in
Fingers past my throat
There is nothing there
It stays lodged
Squatting in this place for which I struggle to care
I listen to songs from back then,
from back when,
from back before when,
it screeches to the sounds
like terrors of its nights
it aches
