Not listenin' to allat
Tusk definitely drags on for too long, with that said, there are still pretty great moments in this record, you should just not expect a Rumours-esque album, this isn't it. The band surely took a different turn, and it's not a bad decision, but the result is not very polished, there are clearly some dull moments that could've been cut.
Overall a pretty good listen, the songwriting and arrangements may feel repetitive as the album progresses, and the record begins to wear on you when you arrive near the end, luckily the wonderful "Tusk" works amazingly as a reset; at least for me, this track was so refreshing and possibly came at the perfect moment to wake me back up. Other must-listens are (obviously) "Sara","Sisters of the Moon" and "Brown Eyes" I give it a 7.5/10.
Getting into this with "Search and Destroy" I found myself really disappointed when Iggy started singing like that, I couldn't bear that delivery and i honestly think this is one of the worst Stooges songs. Nevertheless the record picked up its pace really quickly with the really well sung "Gimme Danger", this was the Iggy Pop I knew all along, we then proceed with the guitar-heavy "Your Pretty Face...": Almost an introduction to what will be the mood of the rest of the album. Overall a super solid record, I guess I was disappointed by the first track since it was the most streamed on the album, also expected a more "Iggy Pop solo-album" vibe but got something rather more chaotic and (obviously) raw.
This album was really a thrill! There are no songs that feel weak or out of place, the guitar parts are wonderful and the album is a vibe all around! With that said I wouldn't consider this one of the best albums of all time, just super fun and catchy!
One of the greatest pieces of art ever conceived.
Fun. Catchy. Energetic
The last album before the "downfall" of the Zeppelin, and it's wonderful. Led Zeppelin surely defined a generation without properly reinventing anything, they just rocked, and this album is proof as much as the others before. You know their sound and they just deliver throughout the entire first disc; the second disc, tho, leans into a more bluesy mood that, in my opinion, works wonderfully, the magical "Down by the Seaside" being one of the highlights of the album alongside the catchy harmonica on "Black Country Woman", judging by the streaming numbers, this side of the album is surely being slept on! A great experience overall and the (almost) hour and a half passes very quickly.
High highs but low lows
Obviously, approaching this album i already heard "Come On Eileen", and perhaps i knew no other song on this album would approach that kind of level, but this surely surprised me. "Too Rye Ay" is catchy, energetic, made me want to stand up and dance almost at every chorus. Kevin Rowland's voice is spot on for this kind of sound, really loved his delivery. With that said, this album can feel very one-dimensional after the first half (not that i got bored of this, but i would understand someone who might) and it's very tempting to lift the needle before arriving at the grand finale, which needs no introduction.
Mid vibes, title track and "Disney Girls (1957)" were really good tho
I procrastinated on Björk for a long time, and i just don't fully get it. There are some really great moments: "There's More To Life Than This" really clicked on me, loved the toilet part, but i don't get the rest. Most of the songs are about a girl who just loves a man a lot and they've got such a "simp" vibe that i can't help but not get over with, maybe i'm just not fucking gay enough, i don't even know. Anyway this is basically feminine Alex Turner making alt-pop/electronic music in my eyes.
funky, not my thing tho
David Byrne has such a sketchy way of singing and it scratches my brain, I love it. You can really feel Brian Eno's production behind this, he has that signature sound that also characterized Bowie's "Heroes".
The second half of the album shines way brighter than the first, and it's not just because "Take Me to the River", i felt that the lyrics were way more appealing and I was appreciating the band's sound much more.
I loved the fact that she sounds like a 2000s version of Patti Smith, but i wouldn't consider this an 8/10 album. Obviously there are some grat moments here and there, and I wouldn't consider the consinstency a problem of this record, but there's just something missing, it's an inner feeling I've been dealing with for the entire listen, and i hate it when i can't use the right words to describe it. Perhaps i need to try this again another day, but for now i didn't quite click with it.
Yes, this is it. This is the album that makes you buy a one way ticket to New York. This is the album that doesn't let you off for a single moment, 35 minutes and 48 seconds of pure foreground music. This is the album that makes you fall in love with garage rock, just to never find something like it ever again, leaving you disappointed, because this is it. This is what a drunk night sounds like when there's no more money and empty bottles, but all the blokes are as high as they can be. This is energetic. This is nostalgic. This is shit. This is fabulous. This is it.
This just sounds fantastic, every track is worth a listen and The Clash cross so many genres that you really can't consider this "just another punk album". This one got everything, the vocals and the vibes are amazing and the folks play their instruments perfectly.
