I must have gone into a fugue state listening to this album. And when I finally woke up 40 minutes later, I was left totally unchanged; still a piece of garbage.

Britney's shaped like a boomerang in my mind. And I suppose that's similarly reflected in her debut album. Starts off with some of her most indelible work and ends with a fantastic cover of Sonny and Cher's "The Beat Goes On", but when the middle dips, it DIPS. When examining the trajectory of Britney's life, it's easy to judge the highs and the lows. I wonder if at age 17, when this album hit #1, were she to see how her boomerang was tossed about by the industry, if she'd have ever thrown it in the first place. 3/5
