Some notes made during listen: "I take their money but I don't feel bad" - based Would be nice if I could make out a single word she was saying A glass of tea???? Surprising amount of body horror in this album Very punk cover of My Generation Overall good, like the instrumentation and how it's used and I can only assume the lyrics are very deep and meaningful. Should maybe listen again on LSD. However, not particularly the kind of music that excites me. 3/5 Also: No MF DOOM in the entire list of ~1000 albums?? Three whole beastie boys albums but not fucking Madvillainy??? Wtf

I'm sure this would have been the hottest shit around when it dropped, but seeing how far rap has progressed makes it feel very dated. This isn't to say Chuck D isn't a good lyricist or the production isn't good, but it feels far older than say 2pac despite that only barely being the case. That being said, it's fantastic as a piece of conscious music, the messages are very viscerally hammered home in a way I find very satisfying. Also, it's good to see our favourite actor Ice Cube get a spot, even if he gets totally mogged by Big Daddy Kane in the next verse. 3.7/5

Listening notes: Robert E. Lee mention eek Tom Lehrer has ensured that I can never take the word 'dixie' seriously These mfs are CANADIAN??? It's funny how the comments are glazing them like come on it's not all that Running theme with this album is the intro will make me think "ah this'll be good" and then it's just another country song Ffs it's happened again The mater changes on Jawbone are nice Generally good, although there seems to be a strong negative correlation between how country a song on this album is and how much I like it. There are some good riffs and piano parts but also country music so I'd say it averages out around 3.2

Listening notes: It's the music from that ad!! Also spider man That's not how you pronounce "massacre" That's not how you pronounce the first syllable of "basement". Can't critique the second syllable because it's nowhere to be seen This is literally the same song again Interesting uh... vocal delivery I feel like I've heard this song before approximately 13 times Good sound, but they can do precisely one thing with it. This feels like the sort of album that's culturally important in the same way that Homo Erectus is evolutionarily important. Blitzkrieg Bop is a banger though 3/5

Satan mention tally - 3 Satan mention tally - 4 (same line repeated but I'm counting it) The two guitars shredding in stereo is so fucking good Goes hard with call to prayer from local mosque in the background I thought Satan would be mentioned more tbh very disappointed Great album, high quality metal with some very good riffs and solos. Probably my favourite of the albums that have come up so far. 4.2/5

Listening notes: Funny that this is the song that comes next after Liv complained about obnoxious guitar solos in Black Sabbath Wow this second song is considerably less good than the first one I would never have thought of recruiting a rabid cat off the street to provide vocals. But I guess I'm not a visionary I can't tell if that noise was prince or his guitar There should be more piano in rock songs Despite what my listening notes might suggest, I really enjoyed this album. Loved the blend of piano and synth with more conventional electric guitar, and the bouncy rhythms. Would be pushing 5 stars if I didn't find some of prince's lyrical delivery a bit annoying. Also Take Me with U. That song is mid as hell. 4.3/5

Why do they have to make my job so hard man Lmfao they put applause in the song cause that's the only way they're going to get any This album is making me hate art If I put a lot of effort into making myself like this I might be able to manage Mr incredible becoming uncanny ahh intro Why are they smashing fucking bottles now Pompompompompompompompompom I'm fucking losing it Is there a motherfucking clown approaching now why is someone walking around in fucking squeaky shoes What the fuck what why can I understand what he's saying What if I don't want to humour you Oh my god it's over This album makes me feel like logging onto reddit and ragebaiting people about how art has been worthless since the beginning of the 20th century whilst caressing the slightly sticky genshin impact funko pop standing on my desk next to the huge pile of Richard Dawkins books. The really irritating thing is when the singer shuts the fuck up and there's not an angle grinder being used in the background, the music is actually good. In spite of all this, I can conceptually enjoy the crazy mess that is this album in its entirety as a piece of art, albeit one I don't understand in the slightest. All this means is it's getting 2 stars instead of 1 though.

Listening notes: This is good and all but I don't think these guys have the bars to call themselves 'ill' Vocal effect got them sounding like they're about to order boneless pizza Weird for a hip-hop group that some of their best songs are the ones they don't rap on This production deserves better rapping A SIX point SEVEN on the richter scale????? Deez nuts mention. Lyricism at its finest This is the kind of beat I would expect Mos Def to drop a sick verse on. Shame it isn't This rhyme scheme is about as diverse as an asnac lecture I'm really torn with this album. The production is very varied and always fun to listen to. so much so that if the rapping was in any way interesting this album would be a solid 5. What we get instead is the beastie boys trading sets of four sometimes slightly wack bars with rhymes usually only at the end. This still sounds fine, but knocks the rating down to a 3.8

Wikipedia says it's about a guy with a huge cock Damn Gaz Coombes really coming straight with the death threats Who the hell are the strange ones I'm a fan of these meter changes Tf is this guest feature from the minions Fucking love this album, it's a slightly eccentric brand of rock that I really enjoy. It's also clear that they're more skilled players than their britpop contemporaries, especially on tracks like I'd Like to Know (fucking banger opener btw, that initial four-song run is fantastic). I don't like the second half of the album as much, but it maintains the high quality of the first half except maybe on We're Not Supposed To 4.8/5

Listening notes: Title track is surprisingly jazzy Was not expecting That's the way (I like it) being quoted lol Very grateful for Usha Uthup telling me I'm doing great Why are there horses sneezing in the background Composer is really a fan of just putting random noises in here huh This guy's singing like he wants to restore the Weimar Republic I should go to bed Oh my god they said the name of the thing Quite enjoyed this album. The ballads often didn't really hold my attention but I really liked the instrumental tracks. There were also tracks that I might not enjoy as songs so much but were still nice listening experiences because of their eclectic mix of sounds most notably the second track. Overall I would rate it 3.7/5
