1001 Albums Summary

An interesting debut that mixes hip hop, rock, dub, reggae, Latin and electronic influences into a distinctive sound. 'M1 A1' was the standout track for me—the opening is incredibly atmospheric and I can see why it was used to start live shows. I'd heard and still enjoy 'Clint Eastwood' and '19-2000', but the rest of the album didn't leave much of an impression on a first listen. Worth hearing, but not one I'd revisit in full.

I knew very little about Nirvana before listening to this. Watching the performance rather than just hearing it made a huge difference. Kurt Cobain's voice was the standout—powerful, emotional and surprisingly versatile. My favourite songs were 'Come As You Are', 'Where Did You Sleep Last Night', 'All Apologies', 'About a Girl' and 'Pennyroyal Tea'. Not every track clicked with me, but the atmosphere of the performance and Kurt's vocals made this an album I'll definitely revisit.

This album just wasn't for me. I liked the instrumentation, especially 'Three Hours', but I found Nick Drake's voice irritating and most of the lyrics too abstract to connect with. 'Man in a Shed' was the only song I really understood. I didn't enjoy it, and I couldn't see what made it special for me.

I was pleasantly surprised by this album. I expected not to recognise many songs, but I knew more than I thought. I liked that the songs were short and catchy, and 'All My Loving' and 'All I've Got to Do' were my favourites. I also enjoyed hearing John Lennon's voice. Some of the covers made me prefer the original versions, and 'Little Child' hasn't aged well for me, but overall this was a really enjoyable listen.
