Eliminator by ZZ Top

So fun and groovy, with some eternal classics, but also repetitive deep cuts with corny 80s schtick

Fear Of A Black Planet by Public Enemy
Aug 14 2026

Energy is relentless. Technically awe inspiring - you feel how its influenced. Flows often electric. Minus one for Pollywanacraka

Queens of the Stone Age by Queens Of The Stone Age
Aug 16 2026

a mostly boring bridge between 90s grunge & 2000s pop punk, but liked the psychedelic jam band vibes in the second half.

Five Leaves Left by Nick Drake
Aug 17 2026

Rolled my eyes when this popped up because of my meh-ness about Blood On the Tracks. I was so wrong (learning to love when this happens). The sound is so rich, whether its the strings, or the constantly interesting arrangements. The gentleness of his voice is heartbreaking now knowing his story, and refreshing contrasted against the dense field of pick-me folk singers today. Can't wait to listen again, in the woods.

Wow, this really clicked for me on the second listen. It has the nostalgia of early-2000s grocery store soft-pop-rock, except with more abstract, complex melodies, really exposed & powerful vocals, and a broad sonic landscape characteristic of all my favorite albums. Love love love. Plus the album cover is kinda sick.

Parklife by Blur

Pretty fun listen. Instrumentation is vast and quirky. Vibe throughout is playful but never vapid. These guys are geniuses, it feels like they're showing off throughout. Can't believe I'd never heard "Girls and Boys" - don't think I'm getting it out of my head this month. But don't think it'll be a repeat listen - the hooks are too idiosyncratic, and topics a bit too british for me to get into. & Albarn's accent was starting to drive me a bit crazy towards the end

The kind of snarl and anger Love has throughout could come off as performative and rehearsed on a lesser record. But on this, it sounds desperate to be expelled and heard. And the lyrics, wow- evocative, poetic, metaphorical (lots of cake and milk). So much hook-ier and musical than the aggressive opener 'Violet' let on (Jennifer's Body is a bangerrr). Doll Parts is still #1 for me tho
