Electric Ladyland by Jimi Hendrix
Aug 15 2026

Really only knew All Along the Watchtower- which I think I originally heard from Battlestar Galactica? Big fan of that track. And I thought I knew Voodoo Child but did not. Thought it was an interesting note to end the album on. The guitar is amazing. The whole experience is like knowing that what I'm listening to is super impressive- especially the guitar work, but I can't really say I loved a lot of it outright. I feel like if I knew the context of the album more then it would resonate more naturally. I didn't dislike any of the tracks, but I wouldn't necessarily go back and intentionally listen to the whole album through. I also think I've probably heard more of these songs in my life without placing them as a part of this album/Hendrix. Overall I listened to it rather passively throughout the day and found myself pausing what I was doing to tune in to lyrical choices and instrumental portions here and there because they grabbed me. It was intermittent, but I definitely kept thinking "wow, this is really impressive work." So I guess you know, I just discovered exactly what everyone else knew about Hendrix. On a very elementary level, of course.

The Beach Boys Today! by The Beach Boys
Aug 15 2026

It's interesting that the article mentions how this albums was deeper and more sentimental because in 2026, so many of those sentiments have been musically beaten to death. This was a fine album! Nothing blew my mind, nothing offended me, it was just an album that felt predictable. However, I'm fully aware that that's because of the time and place I'm coming from. I felt like the lyrics were excessively simplistic and the beats were familiar and nostalgic. If I'd heard this album in the 60s, or even when I was younger, I bet I'd feel a lot differently. Fun to listen to but honestly the highlight for me was just hearing the band chatting to each other in the final bonus track. Having sandwiches and chit chatting. That recording could have been made today with no changes. I loved that brand of familiarity and didn't dislike this album for the same reason.

Arrival by ABBA
Aug 16 2026

Oh, I am predisposed to loving ABBA. Especially since my students recently put on Mama Mia as the school musical. I love the beats and nostalgia. However, I have never heard "When I kissed the Teacher" and that song has not aged well at ALL, hahahah. Not just because I'm an educator. Oof. Odd song to start the album off with. Dancing Queen, Fernando, and Money Money Money continue to be

Smash by The Offspring
Aug 17 2026

I like some Offspring but haven't ever looked up more than a handful of tracks. Interested to hear more of their stuff! I like the spoken intro. Never heard Bad Habit! I dig it. Makes me think of playing GTA3. Like I'd listen to it while driving around San Andreas. Come out and play and Self Esteem still absolutely kill. I like the Ska What Happened to you track! Haven't heard it and really got a kick out of it. I always sorta find the vocals a bit same-y for Offspring, but that's also their iconic sound so it doesn't really bother me. This was a fun listen. I don't know if listening to the album through really enhanced my enjoyment of each track, but I still liked it.

Garbage by Garbage
Aug 18 2026

I don't know if I've ever heard anything by Garbage. I guess we'll find out! Really enjoying a lot of tracks. Queer and Stupid Girl were both great. I wish the album had ended with Sleep. Also the album was soooooooo long. I didn't dislike it! But I wasn't expecting it. I don't know if I'd ever heard their music before but I was surprised at the female vocals, so I definitely didn't know them by name even if I have heard them. Overall an interesting listen with a few stand outs.

Aug 19 2026

I've heard about Oasis a LOT throughout my life, and was extremely familiar with Wonderwall (of course) but most of the other tracks on this album were new to me. Interestingly, a few reminded me of works by The Pillows, who I very much enjoy. Don't Look Back In Anger in particular. They didn't blow my mind, but I enjoyed this album quite a bit. It was also interesting to realize that Red Wine Supernova was a reference! I never knew!
