1001 Albums Summary

Yeah Bob Dylan can’t sing well. That being said, he can do about everything else. Truly one of the greatest lyrical masterminds of all time. This album stands as almost a time capsule of all the issues in America in the 1960s. Accompanied by Bob Dylan’s beautiful instrumentation, he paints one of the most amazingly written albums of all time. All of it wrapped up in one tight bow with the final 11 minute track. Truly a showcase of writing. Also, Like a Rolling Stone is one of the greatest songs of all time.

Rest in peace Dolly, but this isn’t any good. All three ladies have very nice voices, but I don’t think the album changes in any way if you only have one person singing. Instrumentally, it’s inoffensive and uninteresting. The writing isn’t terrible, but basic. All these things add together to create an incredibly uninteresting listen.

This record is very beautiful. The jazzy instruments are so nice to the ear and the vocals are great. I think this is held down by the fact I’m just not that big into jazz and the language barrier does hurt the experience for me in terms of lyricism. Neither of those faults of its own.

There’s not much to be said that hasn’t already.

The fact someone can make an album this good and have it widely considered not their best is absolutely insane. Such beautiful intimate lyricism sang over classic Stevie Wonder piano and funky synths. While I understand it doesn’t shake up anything as much as Stevie’s most acclaimed work, this is still undeniably incredible.

I do think this is a tad overrated. Sure instrumentally it’s great, but I find a ton of the songs way too short and find they stop very abruptly. It’s still the Beatles, so it’s great, by not anywhere near something like an Abbey Road.

I understand its importance obviously. It’s one of the first punk albums ever and I’m grateful for its existence. That being said, it’s so boring. It drags on despite having such a short runtime because all the songs sound almost entirely same. This is being boosted up just by the first track.
