Behind the groovy rhythms of Caribbean melodies, the wailers explore on Catch A Fire themes of love, lust and friendship but also more seriously, the legacy of slavery and the (what seems everlasting) suffering of their people. Bob Marley and The Wailers sing anthems for their listeners with shared history to understand, reflect and unite over. As I listen, I realize more and more how much inspiration Hoba Hoba Spirit drew from this band and genre, decades later and an ocean apart. Music really is a universal language.
