Some highs but I felt generally average for the genre. I was new to this album and it didn't really grab me like Pendulum did when I first listened to it. John Fogerty has a wonderful voice and that held my attention, but not enough for me to run out and buy a copy on vinyl.
I liked a few Beck tracks back in the day and was aware of the 'Odelay' album. I don't think I took that much attention of it even though it was heavily praised at the time. Not quite sure why this was, but 96 was a busy year and I guess my music input was narrowed down by everything else going on in life.... Anyway it was refreshing to sit back now and listen to the album in detail. I really enjoyed it and wondered how did I miss this! If it comes up in my local second hand record store I will 100% pick up the vinyl and give it more airtime.
Fabulous album and a revelation when it first arrived. I actually prefer the later stuff especially 'Tranquillity Base Hotel'. But can't deny the debut is a great album. I don't think it has aged that well considering it's only 20 years old and there are other albums from that time I think I would now listen to first.
I like a fair bit of popular Rolling Stones material and the obvious 2 on this album are great tracks imo. Unfortunately the rest of this album just bored me. I haven't listened to it in detail before and I feel I haven't missed much. Full of bland songs imo and not much to get too excited about. I doubt I'll be returning to Beggars Banquet soon...
Bjork has never been an artist I have taken too. I find her voice quite frantic and though she does have some great tracks I can't get through a whole album of her material. I tried again with this one but it's just not for me.
I had listened to Elliott Smith on and off over the years. I enjoyed his material but always found him a bit boring. I'm surprised as I have always been into the Sadcore genre. I love the likes of Red House Painters, Low and Acetone. I also really like acoustic artists from every era. unfortunately Elliott just doesn't really do it for me.
I gave this album another go and found it very pleasant. It had some good individual tracks, just not enough to hold my full attention and I felt the songs where just too similar. I know he is massively revered but the real test is would I pick it up at my next trip to the record store. Unfortunately not, even from the second hand racks....
The re-released single of 'Quiet Life' was one of the first records I bought when I would have been 14 or so. It was 1981, I was really getting into music and also had money to buy singles from my part time jobs. It was a absolute banger of a track and my formative years were all about New Wave and Post Punk....
At the time I probably didn't realise there was an album of the same name. I think the single was re-released around the time of Tin Drum so that was the Japan album I originally dived into. It was fabulous.
I really enjoyed the chance to revisit this album and it's raw electronic feel. Some excellent tracks and it really flows well for me. It's my era, so any failings, possibly the 'I second that emotion' cover and not having 'A Foreign Place' on the original album take away from the top marks but they just drift away into the clouds of reflection.... The next selection could be a challenge.
Never really liked these and this album just doesn't do it for me. Feel like they are always trying too hard to be popular. Songs all sound too musch the same. Sorry....
I quite enjoy a bit of jazz, especially Bill Evans and Miles Davies. Considering this is album is considered one of the greatest in all the lists it didn't really work for me. I think I prefer piano jazz as the Sax in this was too much for me and I just couldn't enjoy it.
I didn't know Sarah Vaughan before today. A truly stunning voice and a really nice album. Not something I would generally listen too but I did enjoy it.
I like the Pixies but had never listened to this album all through. It's great and I'm an idiot....
The energy and anger reminds me of the best times of UK Punk and post punk so I can appreciate it. It's not that I would generally put on a hip hop album while I'm around the house but it's a great genre and this album is a stand out for me. Very clever use of samples and I love that about hip hop. I enjoyed listening to this.
I love the Beatles but the solo albums by the boys are sadly uninspiring. Imagine is a great song and Jealous Guy is ok too but the rest is terrible. Apart from George Harrisons 'All Things Must Pass' I don't think any of them do it for me.
Never someone I had listed to in detail before. Had always enjoyed his singles and he has a great voice but it's not an album that really grabbed me.
Hated this. The worst of Indie rock. No imagination...
Dirty, sleazy rock and roll at it's finest. Music that makes you want to revolt against everything nice.... Fabulous
They give me the Stooges followed by Taylor Swift.... The poor girl has no chance. Maybe if she spent a month with Iggy in his prime then she might be worth a listen.....
What can you say. It's just a mind blowing album on every level. If you hate this then just cross the street. I'm obviously not your sort of person.....
I appreciate Metallica have a cult status and a very devoted fan base. I never got it and to me it's mainly just noise. My abiding memory of Metallica is walking away from the stage as they came on at a Reading festival and hundred of devotees running past me towards the noise.... I guess it must be me that's wrong lol.... I'm happy to keep walking away.
