Listenable, lush and imaginative, without being pompous- I don't know what to say, I got time for prog rock. And this is great for any genre, with lyrics that are suggestive and intriguing. I wanted to put it on again! (with perhaps one exception- Get out of here with your lovely moonchild! That sung section is tweee...)

The Band by The Band
Oct 05 2026

Mid! I would have no trouble putting it on in the background, it was perfectly pleasant, but there were no big standouts and it made me feel no feelings.

From Elvis In Memphis by Elvis Presley
Oct 06 2026

Hot take: Elvis can really sing? He's so beautifully emotive and interesting to listen to- I was also pretty amused by the emotional whiplash engendered by listening to the full tracklist in order. Buuuut... this album is a little too long, and gets a bit dull!

Back At The Chicken Shack by Jimmy Smith
Oct 07 2026

Ah not my favourite, I would 2.5 if I could, I don't think I would play this album again. This is mostly to do with the fact that I have never liked that jazz organ sound much, sorry Jimmy... Minor chant though, let's go!

Low-Life by New Order
Oct 08 2026

Good stuff, great band. It was a new album to me, without any of my preexisting favourite New Order tracks, which helped me just enjoy the sound. A low 4 or high 3- has one notable whiff (for me) of 'sub-culture', it's strange that was a single!

Tidal by Fiona Apple
Oct 09 2026

Excellent- love Fiona Apple, and she only gets better. I think her latest album is easily a 5, but this is a standout 4.

Beauty And The Beat by The Go-Go's
Oct 12 2026

Really pop, with a couple of indisputably fun tracks, but overall I would say I found it slightly boring. I will see if I come back to it?

Definitely Maybe by Oasis
Oct 13 2026

Relentlessly plodding- a set of loud and furious songs about absolutely nothing. Turns out they were doing that irritating non-sequitur songwriting right from the start? Rescued from one star by not having the most overplayed tracks.

Oct 15 2026

Intrigued- I'll come back for this, I think. I cut it off at Music Scene, because it's a lot to have on while trying to do almost anything else. Excellent nastiness that demands your attention. I was excited to hear rebellious jukebox in the album context.

Rhythm Nation 1814 by Janet Jackson
Oct 16 2026

I was so ready to get behind this cheesy album concept (stupid in a fun way!), but the 80s production and the naive, sentimental songwriting left me pretty cold.

Maverick A Strike by Finley Quaye
Oct 21 2026

The first album I really question being on here, despite being pleasant enough with some really solid tracks. But, on the whole, this fusion style comes off as easy listening. And what was he thinking with the fake accent?!

Dig Your Own Hole by The Chemical Brothers
Oct 22 2026

If you're in the right mood to play this, then play it you should.

Songs For Swingin' Lovers! by Frank Sinatra
Oct 23 2026

Nostalgia from playing in a big band makes me fond of these songs, but I can't be the only one who thinks there is something creepy about Frank... technically, he has a gorgeous voice, but I always imagine him singing these love songs with the cold, dead eyes of a shark.

Jazz Samba by Stan Getz
Oct 26 2026

Just kind of lovely. Maybe a high 3, low 4 kind of situation- I like Stan Getz's playing a lot, and I wanted to put it on again.
