Blunderbuss by Jack White
Oct 12 2026

i ended up liking the deep cuts on this one. I’m Shakin’ was a big high, loved how infectious it was. On and On and On was also great! overall the lyricism is so pensive and creative. it made me appreciate 7 Nation Army more, which is the only Jack White song i knew before this LOL

i can really see the beauty in this album, but i’m admittedly not acquainted with it enough to appreciate the nuances across the tracks and felt a little weary of the sameness shortly into my listen. the storytelling and lyricism are both gorgeous, very quintessentially american, but i struggled to stay engaged with willie nelson’s voice (the only classic country i’ve adored to now is johnny cash, and his rich baritone is hard to beat) and the restrained instrumentals. ironically, i ended up appreciating the songs more as poetry. i loved the lyrics but this just wasn’t for me sonically. i’ll need to sit on a farm porch somewhere as the sun sets to enjoy this more properly LOL

a delight to listen to, especially since it would have taken me ages, if ever, to discover Senegalese funk (?) on my own. i liked the variety of instrumentals and rhythms but admit that the album was very front-loaded. the first two tracks were absolutely delightful, with vocals that immediately brought me déjà vu sensations of a hazy vacation i might have once taken. even if the latter half of the album was weaker, i appreciate that the whole project was short and sweet, without being samey. glad to have listened to this

Green by R.E.M.
Oct 27 2026

aside from the opener track, which i found fun and nostalgic, this album was nearly unlistenable to me. i think i have to give it 1.5 stars. vocals are too grating, and the clashing and clanging is neither raw/gritty enough or polished/pleasant enough. i feel bad that this is my worst listening experience so far LOL sorry REM
