Much nostalgia for when these were hits during the disco era. Apparently I only heard the dance remixes back then because the songs had a lot more complexity, strings, horns on the album than in my memory. Kinda like if the Supremes decided to put out a disco album.
I am from Seattle, from which this band hails, and I have never heard of them. To me, this is over-produced indie folk pop and I feel like folk music should be more authentic and raw. What can I say - this just doesn’t speak to me.
Her songs have a retro late doo-wop-adjacent 50s/soul R&B 60s sound and style. She has a lovely and distinctive voice. Apparently, this is among the best selling albums of all time and she won numerous Grammys and other awards. I suppose for this reason, it is worth a listen, but I am really not into it.
Forever an iconic snapshot. The Legacy Edition includes clips from the interactions between these jazz legends during the studio takes. The downside to this album is that I have heard these songs so much that they have lost some of the magic for me. But that does not diminish this album's importance in music history.
