The Queen Is Dead
The SmithsWell at least it was short. Whiny goth music. "I sure hope we die by getting hit by this truck" and the super insightful "Some girls ARE bigger than others"

I liked this one way better than most of the others. It sounds like someone left a Weezer or Sonic Youth album out in the rain for a week. It just SOUNDS filthy which is neat.
This is the reason I started doing this 1001 albums thing in the first place. I feel like my music exposure is very limited and I'm sure there are lots of artists out there that I'd never actually give a chance. I'm worried a bit that I like this one BECAUSE I've panned the others so hard but I do feel like FINALLY we have an album I'd listen to again of my own free will. I especially liked "Dreamer" and "Rudy" but I bet on after a couple more playthroughs I'd like a few others too. I don't know that I loved this album but I do feel like this is something that I could enjoy while partaking. I think I'm gonna go listen to Supertramp greatest hits.
A forgettable, boring ass record from a late to the party girl punk group that brought exactly nothing new or entertaining. 1/5
Very beach rock / Beatles knock-off band. It was fine but really not what I normally listen to. Stop trying to make Jeepster happen.
It's fine. I'd heard a lot of the songs before and I get it, I'm just not super excited about it.

It was fine. I liked it a lot at first but it was very one note. I really wanted to like it more than I did.
Not my favorite Kanye album. It's got two or three great songs and several...not so great. Compared to say Graduation, it's not his best.
I wanted to give this a chance but I had to actually stop playing it because it was giving me a headache. Something is super discordant about this nonsense hippy rock and I think I'm just too sober to like it.
Started out great, got a little iffy towards the middle. I'd listen to it again.
Meh. It was just a lot of some dude playing wonderwall with his college ID. I'm surprised at how many albums so far have been just meh.
Look I'm sure this guy is talented, I'm sure stuff like this was interesting in 1980. Honestly though, it's boring. It's boring and I want my time back.
punk like this always seems so self-indulgent. Like "yeah we're gonna just mess around and you're gonna like it" Punk always feels like they just got drunk the night before and then forgot to write a song. Which to be fair is pretty damn punk BUT it still sounds...last minute. I'm just gonna yell "Spoilt Victorian Child" and it's supposed to mean something besides "Oh no I forgot to write a song"

My only real issue is that I don't think this music is intended to be played through headphones while writing a blog post. It's intended to be played in the background of a party with an 80s theme for people who are tired of the normal music you'd play at a party with an 80s theme. There were a few bops I thought, although I have a few questions about why there was a song about ranchero sauce. I don't have questions about Jolly Roger. Obviously this guy is a pirate, look at his shirt.
I love music that feels raw and passionate. There's such a draw to stuff like Amy Winehouse's black album or Adele's 19 or even some Johnny Cash where you can feel the pain the artist brings from their real life into the song. I'm not going to find myself singing any of these songs while doing the dishes, but listening to songs 2-4 is an experience you can feel in your soul. Music like this demands that you turn it up, close your eyes, and imagine yourself in a dark living room clutching a rocks glass of bourbon on the last night of your life. It's perfect for solo listening through headphones at volumes that will permanently damage your hearing. And you should, you should feel permanently damaged by this passion behind dark and brooding music.
