Seemed alright, I mean we were playing gta at the time so I didn’t fully listen to a decent amount. I don’t think I’m usually a fan of really long guitar solos and I guess Hendrix is the king of that so it was never gonna do great for me. Generous 3 star cus it seemed funky (in a good way)

Our Aim Is To Satisfy
Red Snapper
Notes:
2 seconds in and I’m scared the flood are gonna creeping up on me.
First song was alright. After 2 I’m starting to think this album is basically a very early 2000s weird indie movie soundtrack set in a nightclub.
Feels experimental, very background music-y. Was this the LoFi of the 2000s?
Lick my WHAT
2 star cus I don’t wanna say it’s god awful, but I’m not sure that was an album I NEEDED to listen to before I die like the site says.

Usually don’t like punk at all really, but this album was a more subtle punk ting so I didn’t hate it. I might be wrong but wasn’t 1977 really early for punk? Maybe this album inspired/paved the way for punk?
Maybe a 2.5 star for me cus I’d be more likely to put the previous Hendrix album on instead of this but it’s pretty good as far as punk goes tbh

Notes:
7mins into first song: SOMETHING JUST PLEASE HAPPEN THIS IS LIKE GUCCI GUCCI PRADA PRADA ALL OVER AGAIN
8mins in: Ok maybe I should have been careful what wished for.
You know when you get stuck/lost on a video game level and the soundtrack just loops? Yeah…
Some of the effects were nice just not used in a nice way. I was constantly checking how long was left on this album and I paid more attention to it than other albums we’ve done so I feel a bit more confident with my vote. This album was the equivalent of a long drive on the autobahn for someone who doesn’t like driving.

Stuck on what to give this cus I quite liked it, but a 4 star is maybe a bit too much. I will say I don’t think I heard the whole album, maybe missed 2-4 songs. She had a good voice, not much more I can think to say really.
Maybe somewhere between a 3.25 and 3.5 star

Haha it’s very 80s ain't it? Dude sounds like George Michael in Wham! a bit. I think I liked “Horsin’ around” the most with the Bossa Nova style cus it was a little different, not really my thing as a whole though.

Ah the World Cup is on guys let’s go.
“Bah bah baah, bah babybel” - about 4 mins into “The Rolling People”
A bit like Bran said in a different album, this gives me a kind of a non-specific nostalgia and though I wouldn’t be likely to actively put this album on, it’ll get a better score cus of this (well probably if there was a better rating system)
Ok boys I’m being nice to you today don’t ruin it with a stupid fucking hidden track like that

Notes:
😳 ok… weird off the bat.
If you listen to this album on a regular basis then there’s an 83% chance you’re a serial killer. This album was designed for use in Guantanamo. This album is how they brainwashed the numbers into Masons head.
Really not a fan of random background noise being a focal part of all of your songs (I also hate kids singing or having lines in a song so one of them I found especially awful)
Realised I don’t need to do this. Nobody’s forcing me to listen to this. I’m an adult. I can do what I want. Wow the album just gave me an epiphany - 5 stars.
Jk it’s fucking awful 0 stars gave up at song 10 “Roygbiv” which actually was a nicer sounding one of the lot but I’m not subjecting myself to anything else

I really enjoyed this, very fun to drive around to. It’s not something I would have listened to before but I can actually see myself listening to it again should I be in the mood. So for an album I’ve never listened to in a style I don’t usually consider I’m gonna give the 5 star

Didn’t listen to it all just cus I hadn’t got the time, wasn’t a huge fan of the small amount I heard tho. Pretty sure a 2 is what I would have given it anyway so I’ll just stick with that

Notes:
Had to skip the first song half way through, just too much going on for me.
Oh “Once in a Lifetime” is a famous one, recognise it from like a current Netflix show advert. I assume this is gonna be the better song of the lot, but I’m not sure I’m a huge fan of this song anyway - not awful but not anything special.
A lot of this, especially the lyrics, feel like they’re being made up on the spot. Even though I think it’s because of an intentional style they’re doing (idk maybe to make it sound more informal or like a live performance?) it just sounds a bit messy to me.
I think it got a bit better as it went on but I also started paying less attention. Still not something I’d listen to.
Rating 1 cus I think if the album was put on while chilling at a friends I would notice it and want the music changed - not as bad as the last 1 star though

AC/DC
Loved AC/DC as a kid, was more used to Brian Johnson but Jon Bon Scott is just as iconic for ACDC (always think it’s cool how similar singers they are) and I think it was his final album before he died.
Can’t think of much to say… it’s ACDC. It rocks.

Didn’t start off great for me, first 4 songs I didn’t really enjoy. Trampled Under Foot was better but not amazing, then Kashmir came on and the album got a lot more enjoyable from then on. It did start to dwindle again towards the end but not with anything bad or irritating.
Stuck between a 4 or 5 rating, some stuff I like, some not as good maybe higher 4 ffffffgffç (I drifted off while trying to type this so review is over sorry)

The Slim Shady LP
Eminem
Gonna be honest, never listened to an Eminem album. Obviously heard a lot of his more popular songs and remember listening to a few from The Eminem Show, but never specifically an album start to finish (haven’t really done that with many albums in general).
But holy fuck this is the edgiest shit, Guilty Conscience had me somewhere between this 😂 and this 😨
It was a funny album, My Fault was a funny story.
I think the problem with the way I listened to this album was that rap is all about the lyrics not necessarily the music. Listening to the later half while on discord playing games made me lose that closer attention to the words and made the music as a whole sound a bit same-y.
However, it’s Eminem so I’m stuck on my rating a bit. Maybe another album would be higher.

Ron Swansons favourite artist, automatic 5 stars.
Seriously though, couple songs in and really liking the vibe. Could imagine listening to this on a long late night drive and just chilling.
How relaxing is this album man. Not too long either, a nice in and out experience.
I can really see myself listening again to fit a calm mood.

M.I.A.
Really like M.I.A’s voice and really like the influences of different cultural music in the album. Some songs were on the verge of just being noise but not overly so. Paper Planes obviously great.

Another one I had to listen to on shuffle, so that may make an impact on score. Not sure what to rate this one, somewhere between 3 & 4 was decent, but not really anything special to me. Probably a 3.5 but I’ll rate it as 3 cus I think there has been better 4s.

Oh shit this is Courtney Love yikes 😬
Nah not my thing, apparently this album was a bit more significant cus it was a prominent band with a woman as the lead which was rare at the time? Think it’s more of an American thing too. You can see how they’re similar to Nirvana.
Not my kinda stuff.

I'm Your Man
Leonard Cohen
I’ve heard great things about Leonard Cohen so I was curious going into this album. Another album I had to shuffle so that maybe made a difference but damn it felt slow.
Some of the songs were nice musically but I feel like Leonard Cohen’s singing and lyrics kinda put me off. Couldn’t stop thinking I bet this guy wears a fedora describes things as “groovy” and calls people he likes a “cool cat”. Also it felt weirdly jarring every time he started talking about wanting to see someone naked like you were hearing your grandad say it.
I wasn’t having an awful time listening to this but it wasn’t great.
That all changed when “Jazz Police” came on. I couldn’t believe my ears, this music it’s… it’s…
HYSTERICAL.
Dunno if it was meant to be but damn it was a good time. Apparently this “Jazz Police” are “Wild as any freedom loving racist”. Are they racists? Or are they arresting racists? Are they after Cohen because he’s racist or something else?
Regardless Cohen says “Jazz police I think I'm falling, I'm falling for you” he’s falling in love with a WHOLE POLICE FORCE?? WHO MIGHT BE RACIST??
The plot thickens when we find out “Jazz police are working for my mother (😱), Blood is thicker margarine than grease” (🤷♂️)
Whether you think Cohen is guilty or not (of…uh… jazzing?) at this point should not matter as he condemns himself with the following lines “Stick another turtle on the fire, Guys like me are mad for turtle meat”
What a sick bastard.
10/10 song.
((Side note: after this album finished his song “Hallelujah” came on which I believe he originally wrote and god damn he ruined his OWN song, I can think of 4 versions of this song better than the original and that’s rare))

Common
I’m writing this hours after I actually listened to the album so I don’t have much to say cus I don’t actually remember too much. Rap isn’t usually a genre that holds my interest and this was a long one so a lot went over my head from my lack of attention which again, I feel like is crucial for rap.
There were some good bits like the pimp battle and I love that his dad has his own track on the album.
Main gripe is length.

I agree with the stuff he said though. Pretty spot on actually.
I don’t think it was awful, just an outdated genre/style that I have no attachment to. Again, listened on shuffle, couldn’t get round to them all and I’m writing this hours after I listened so that probably does make some sort of impact on the score.
2 star, there have been worse 2’s though
