Rejoicing In The Hands
Devendra BanhartThis album is a gem, really liked several songs. He’s got a cool voice, simple but solid guitar work, and some clever lyrics. Best one in quite a while

Bizarre album, it’s like a buffet of mediocre songs from different genres.
This album was hard to get to the end of, I can’t find a single redeeming quality here.
None of them really stood out to me, and I actively disliked a few. Expected to like it more
Really enjoyed the Portuguese backing and style, not a big fan of Sinatra’s voice though
Definitely grew on me, once I got past the vocals and clangy... everything. Heartland was a good one
Kinda exactly what you’d expect. Not bad, but not remarkable. The female vocalist had a very nice voice though
Really well polished album. The jazz bits blended nicely. Favorite album so far
She’s got a unique voice, and the strings pair really well with it. A little like Joanna Newsom. Second half of the album didn’t do much for me though
Perfectly fine background music
Really didn’t do anything for me. Most of the songs felt either too busy and badly mixed or too empty. No memorable tunes.
Not my style, but I was more entertained than I expected to be.
This album was hard to get to the end of, I can’t find a single redeeming quality here.
Piano-centric pop consistently does it for me. Several memorable songs I would enjoy hearing again
Songs are too busy, just generally not my thing
None of them really stood out to me, and I actively disliked a few. Expected to like it more
I enjoyed the theatrics and good use of the flute, clavi, etc. Last song was a turn off though
It’s not really my thing, but I understand the appeal. Tracks are too long.
I really wanted to enjoy this one, and I did like the novelty of the experimental feel every song gave off, but it didn’t live up to my expectations.
Bizarre album, it’s like a buffet of mediocre songs from different genres.
Really relaxing, and I enjoyed it while it was on, but none of the individual songs stood out to me.
An excellent album. I listened to this one a lot when I was little, and most are songs I still listen to regularly. Really formative for my music taste today. A respectful 5 stars
Vocalist has a cool voice, but otherwise not much here for me
Everything has a screechy quality, and I actively hated every aspect of the vocals. Each song worse than the last. Finishing the album was hard
Very 80s, but in a good way. Had some tracks I’ll definitely listen to again
I definitely see the appeal, but it’s too pop-y for me. There aren’t any songs I’ll listen to again here.
I liked that it was short, and little else beyond that
Relaxing, kinda cowboy rock if that’s a genre. No individual songs stood out, but I’d put the album on for background music.
Nice nostalgic memories of this guy playing from my Nan’s kitchen radio. Overall a pretty alright album.
An awesome album. Lots of songs I knew but didn’t realize were on this album. Will listen to most of this album again soon
Getting to the end of this album was a labor. Will actively avoid listening to any part of this album ever again
I really didn’t like this album, but occasionally it had cool rhythms and I guess I could see someone liking it
A really neat album, definitely got some tracks I’ll listen to again. Interested to hear Brian Eno’s other albums
Really mixed thoughts on this one. There were some cool grandiose bits mixed in with bizarre and extremely German bits.
I liked the brass but none of the songs really stood out to me. Had a nice general groove though
This one is hard to rate; vocals sound like they were recorded during a drunk karaoke night in a British pub, and every song misses the mark in terms of lyrics and mood by such hilariously wide margins, it deserves to be treated as a masterpiece.
Not a fan of how mumbly he is, but I can see the appeal and respect his impact on music.
The novelty wears off pretty quick. Not much else going for this album.
Album feels like a rough draft, has some cool rhythms but the tracks all feel lacking. No direction either
Very disco. I’ve realized disco is a bit like jazz minus the solos, once they find a good groove they stay there. No standout songs but a respectable listen
I had high expectations on this one, but I kinda got bored after a while
Neat instrumentation, but I didn’t care for the vocalist, and no individual songs really stood out
This album is a gem, really liked several songs. He’s got a cool voice, simple but solid guitar work, and some clever lyrics. Best one in quite a while
I loved the upbeat quality, smooth vocals, decent lyrics, and all-around good balance. Wish there were more individual standout songs though
Title track is great. I like the style a lot, the mix of instruments at the front and dominant bass makes me think of Tame Impala at times
(Wrote the wrong review on the last one) Title track is great. I like the style a lot, the mix of instruments at the front and dominant bass makes me think of Tame Impala at times
I liked the heavy, simple rhythms, and the use of organ. But most of the songs were ultimately kind of boring
Neat album, very relaxing and warm. I didn’t care for the breathy choir though. It’s definitely not an album for everyone, but I enjoyed it
Pretty good album, as expected. I consistently appreciate the polish on Bowie‘s albums, there’s always the right amount of instruments and vocals. Several good tracks
I like the style, but the vocal effect is a little abrasive after a while. I’d be interested in hearing more of their stuff though
I really liked the Neil Young songs, with his simple style and good lyrics, but the Crazy Horse ones were no good
Neither good nor bad, I wouldn’t mind hearing more of it but it’s not something I’m gonna go out of my way to listen to
Felt like kinda standard southern rock. Easy to listen to, but no jams
This album was awesome. It varied enough in style to keep me entertained the whole time, and had some really cool grandiose bits. Definitely will listen to this album again
Female vocalist has a great voice, and the instrumentals are well done. Didn’t really spark my interest, but it’s high quality stuff.
Mixed feelings. I see the appeal, I’m sure it’s ideal when you’re feeling the right kind of gloomy, and nothing about it is bad per se, it’s just not my cup of tea
I really liked the percussive stuff on this one. Lots of jazz influence too. I am not a fan of ending many songs with fadeouts though
Lacks variation in style, lots of repetition and drones. Made for a pretty boring listen
Really relaxing. I have no real complaints about it, I just probably won’t listen to it again any time soon. Except “I Shot the Sheriff”, of course.
