Violator
Depeche ModeNot sure if this should be on a 1001 list. I kind of like a few songs, but the overall value of the album isn't very high. 2 stars.

This album struck me more as music than songs, in that there wasn't a feeling of one song ending and another beginning. My rating would likely be 3.5/10 despite my desire to like it.
Good, maybe their 2nd or 3rd best album.
There's Bowie magic throughout this album. Like it a lot.
There are "good" mainstream songs on here, but nothing really interesting.
Guitar obviously impressive, and often engaging. Lyrics are not as intelligent as they should be. Would not listen to a second time.
Great for it's time, but not great for our time. Hard to rate as it's kind of campy and shallow, but would not have seemed so in 1960 when it came out. More of a gateway to the next generation than part of it. Only a few years later, the rules were completely rewritten by bands like the Beatles, Stones, Who that led to music that still holds up 60 years later. This does not. Elvis' voice and singing is very good for what the music allows, but not much is allowed.
Better than I anticipated.
PS seems to be trying to be part of the real talent of her time, Dylan, The Doors, Lou Reed, Joplin, etc. Doesn't have the magic that any of them have/had. The music sounds like it might be good, but just sounds like it. Sounds like a tight bar band, with no reason to hit the big time. Exception might be Birdland.
Not a cohesive album imo, but when it's good it's "best ever" good. And there's more good than not. Deserves to be on this list.
First impression: blatant Beatles-esque attempt. HN's real voice is present in Early in the Morning and Coconut Song. I think that "Paul is Dead" might have been when HN left the band as was replaced by is brother PM who share a father? This is pretty good, against my original impression. 4 stars.
Enough creative moments to know that there's something real here, but perhaps hampered by an overall lack of "musical-ness" and average lyric writing. Close to great, but just short. Exception is EDP, which makes me wonder if the writing is different on that track?
Not worth the time it takes to listen to it. If you think you like this then you should really listen to something like Age of Adz to see what can be done in this genre. 1 star

There are 1001 4 and 5 star albums in the history of recorded music. The tendency for this list to have albums as unimportant and average as this suggests that there is no real system for determining the albums on this list.
No Rain is very strong.
