I was excited after reading their extremely pretentious description on Spotify but the result is underwhelming. I was really hoping for some genre bending/blending, instead it's just a dylan/orbison/petty not-quite coverband that delves into sound scapes ala Wilco meets Brian Eno. Clearly skilled at recording and arrangement, but the drums are the same on every track (just different speed) and it kills the vibe for me. It ends up sounded very bland and kinda boring. It leans way too heavily on a Tom Petty/Orbison wilburys vibe for me. THere are moments where I'm excited for what might be coming only to be disappointed by the same bland pop beat, again.
Great album all the way through, surprised I hadn't heard a few of the tracks before
Fantastic, obvious root and influence of many mcs to come
Wish I knew this when it came out and not a decade later
Not my favorite, stylistically mostly, but there are some bangers on here, can hear the influence on a ton of bands to come
How have I never heard of this band before now? A bit melodramatic overall butt obvious talent with some interesting song writing and arrangement
Amazing not as great as thriller but a solid album all the way through. Somebody on the sound engineering team learned with gating was
Wow I forgot about the the, very '80s but clearly very talented! an interesting listen but only "liked" one song for later listening. The man clearly had a lot of talent and energy.
A little underwhelmed I was excited to hear something other than their heads and it's not very exciting
So much better than expected, solid all the way through
I hate country, I tried but couldn't make it through the first song
These guys are a better band than I remember. There are some really good tunes on here, but all of it is just outside of my style preferences. It's very dated to the eighties.... instrument choice and production wise
nice.... this is so easy to listen to, makes me understand Miles Davis as a thing, so many of his "top hits" are pretty esoteric to come into cold not having heard his foundational stuff. Really happy to be made aware of this one!!!
amazing...halycon on and on is a classic. studio masters before digital studios
More interesting than I expected at points, but droning and dull overall. I've never really "got" this vibe
One of my all time favorite albums...each song a banger.
There a few good tunes on here, but they all start to sound the same to me after a while, no very innovative within their feel
meh... the singers voice is too whiny (at least for my current mood).
Feels ahead of it's time, but also dated. That said it's got great vibes and I starred a few tunes.
Interesting that this would be here instead of ...and justice for all. This album, though mature in some aspects, feels too tame and radio friendly. Like many bands that find fame and tour relentlessly, IMHO the songwriting sounds like it suffers from a thought process along the lines of "this will sound good in an arena" that can only come with experience of doing that, but I believe takes away from the raw energy and emotion of the previous albums which feel more bent towards headphone consumption.

Merry Christmas!!
Apparently written before nothings shocking, this can be considered their first, and imho best album. Check's off all boxes: sounds like no one else, no skip-over tracks, has a consistent and overarching vibe without all the songs sounding the same. If this were a sci fi novel I'd be talking about their world building craftsmanship. Three Days alone is worth buying a copy of this album for yourself. 11 stars.
It's really good, and a step up from the previous album, but this is the second orbital album on the list, it's not different enough for me to get too excited about.
Sounds like all the other Frank Black albums... it's good but it's just shy of really good. He clearly was a HUGE influence in the pixies, but his solo albums always serve as proof that any band is greater than the sum of its parts.
