The Number Of The Beast by Iron Maiden

was expecting to hate this children of the damned - simple vocals, but captivating, tight guitar work, drum line around 2:45ish is beautiful; guitar solo is impressive prisoner - not my cup of tea, but vocals are good, lyrics are not 22 Acacia Avenue - this feels like the album is getting repetitive Number of the Beast - pretty eh, I liked the 666 part lol run to the hills - nothing special gangland - i'm getting sick of this repetitive song structure hallowed be thy name - the slow start is a nice change, outro was good length overall final thoughts - not my cup of tea, but I can tell it's a great work for the genre

John Prine by John Prine

I'm really disappointed. Adrianne Lenker is one of my favorite songwriters of all time. John Prine is one of her largest inspirations, and while I can see the clear link on Big Thief's previous album, Prine's music is just not what I was wanting to hear. The lyrics are wonderful, and he's a great storyteller, but the music is unbearably boring. I'm just not a country gal, but I wish there was better music to go with the stories.

Aqualung by Jethro Tull
Jul 12 2022

Solid album. I might revisit it in the future. Really had no idea if I'd ever listened to Jethro Tull before today until the opening notes of Aqualung: iconic. It's a cut above most classic rock, but doesn't immediately grab me like some other prog rock masterpieces. I may need a deeper, more thoughtful listen to get it.

From Elvis In Memphis by Elvis Presley
Jul 13 2022

This music reminds me of my dad, in a good way. Various Elvis songs played in the background through my childhood and it was always nice, easy listening music. This is no different. However, I don't think music like this will ever be a consistent part of my listening rotation.

The Suburbs by Arcade Fire
Jul 14 2022

I enjoyed this quite a bit. Very nice melodies, though I didn't pay close attention to the lyrics as much. Some of these songs really stick in your head for a while, and I'm here for it. Anyway, I'll come back again.

Fear Of A Black Planet by Public Enemy
Jul 15 2022

I can appreciate the importance and influence of this work and others by Public Enemy, but 80s/90s hip hop is really not my groove most of the time. I don't listen too closely to lyrics, so perhaps that's the source of my feelings of underwhelming. This album also feels too long and repetitive musically.

Street Life by The Crusaders
Jul 18 2022

This was a nice easy listen. However, I didn't hear anything special about it. Pretty average imo

Hejira by Joni Mitchell
Jul 19 2022

Very soothing listen. Mitchell is an excellent songwriter and I know I'll be back for more. I might need a couple more listens of this to get a better grasp on it, but unfortunately YouTube is not my preferred way to listen to music...

Jul 20 2022

Nice to listen to while working. I think I'd rather choose a different ambient themed collection next, however.

Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield
Jul 21 2022

Incredible album! I remember listening to pt 1 so many times in college stoned as hell captivated by the many sounds that are present here. It always blew me away that it was one guy that did almost all of this alone. To be honest, though, I had only listened to part 1 before today, and while part 2 is brilliant in its own right, It doesn't carry the same wonder. I will certainly come back to this in the future!

Songs Of Leonard Cohen by Leonard Cohen
Jul 22 2022

Somewhat haunting at times, I was captivated by this. I hesitate to give 5 stars because I didn't fully digest the lyrics, but this is something I will revisit soon!

John Prine by John Prine
Jul 25 2022

I'm really disappointed. Adrianne Lenker is one of my favorite songwriters of all time. John Prine is one of her largest inspirations, and while I can see the clear link on Big Thief's previous album, Prine's music is just not what I was wanting to hear. The lyrics are wonderful, and he's a great storyteller, but the music is unbearably boring. I'm just not a country gal, but I wish there was better music to go with the stories.

Seventeen Seconds by The Cure
Jul 26 2022

When I discovered Disintegration for the first time, I took a dive into the Cure's discography. Falling in love with masterpieces such as the aforementioned LP, Pornography, and Faith, I felt this release didn't have the same hit. After listening to this today, I realize my initial assessment was unfair. This album shows so much raw talent and ideas coming into place that would pave the way for the refined beauty that is Pornography and Disintegration. "A Forest" particularly grabbed me and swept me away this time. Solid entry from a superb band.

This Year's Model by Elvis Costello & The Attractions
Jul 27 2022

I enjoyed this album quite a bit. After the first few songs, I thought I'd get tired of Costello's voice and the energetic cynical lyrics. And while I was not huge on the second through fifth songs, I found the latter half of the album grabbed my attention much more. This isn't my favorite representation of New Wave, but I look forward to hearing more from Costello and other artists like this. (3.5 leaning towards 4 stars)

Jul 28 2022

So I usually look up what genre an album is before listening just to prep myself. RYM calls this "Big Beat" or "Breakbeat" and that just confused the heck out of me. Well, I didn't know what to expect, and I'm not disappointed. I'm pretty impressed by the sounds on here considering it's from '94, and many of the songs were lively and kinda pumped me up. Though it's a little too much for working, I could see this being great rave or late night drive music, but outside of that, when am I gonna listen? It's not my taste, but not a bad listen.

Honky Tonk Heroes by Waylon Jennings
Jul 29 2022

The title track, "Honky Tonk Heroes", was pretty solid. I found the lyrics playful and interesting, along with the music. However, after that track, the album went downhill for me. I found a lot of tracks to be forgettable, with the exception of "Ride Me Down Easy", "Black Rose", and "We Had it All". The latter track was my favorite on the album and a wonderful closer. However, the majority of the album doesn't impress me.

Aug 01 2022

Wow. I am kinda stunned. I believe there are only three songs on this album that Cash wrote, while the rest are covers. How can someone perform others' work in such a beautiful way and create a presence like Cash does? You can feel in his voice that he's tired and weary, and that the end is nigh, but that doesn't keep him from delivering a performance for the ages. I've always liked Johnny Cash, but never got into him. I think it's time.

Dookie by Green Day
Aug 02 2022

A very fun listen. Armstrong writes pretty relatable lyrics about anxiety and self-doubt, but without a lot of depth. The self-deprecating humor is great here and the music is fun and fast, but there's not a whole lot else.

Drunk by Thundercat
Aug 03 2022

I've had this one downloaded on my phone for a long time. I can't get enough of T-Cat's funny lyrics and nostalgic sounds and references, especially the anime and video game ones. This was a great listen and a wonderful way to start my day

Ghosteen by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Aug 04 2022

I really enjoyed the ambient sounds on this record. I'm sure a lot of the meaning and depth behind the album are held in the lyrics, but it lost me at some point, and I was satisfied by the music. Nice listen

Doolittle by Pixies
Aug 05 2022

Solid listen. I'm sure they were ground-breaking and hugely influential, but it just sounds like good energetic indie rock.

Shaft by Isaac Hayes
Aug 08 2022

Not a big fan. Majority of it was elevator music. Far too long and caused me to put this project on hold for weeks

With The Beatles by Beatles
Aug 09 2022

Generic sounding 60s pop. The best songs on here were covers, with the exception of All My Loving. Pre-Rubber Soul Beatles were mid imo

Modern Kosmology by Jane Weaver
Aug 10 2022

Pretty solid. Nothing too special, but I found the latter half to be better.

Axis: Bold As Love by Jimi Hendrix
Aug 11 2022

I'm conflicted on this one. On one hand, the guitar skills were superb and inventive. I don't think anyone could play like that but him. On the other hand, the songs were boring. The melodies were nothing to speak of, the lyrics were forgettable, etc. But that playing... incredible. I look forward to his other stuff where hopefully the songs are better. I also bet his live work is good.

Electric Warrior by T. Rex
Aug 26 2022

Good, not amazing. Very influential, but I prefer what came next

Ragged Glory by Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Aug 29 2022

I'm just not enjoying this very much. I like a few Neil Young songs so I was thinking I'd be a fan, but no. Unbelievably boring

Purple Rain by Prince
Aug 30 2022

This was a fun ride with an emotional finish. It wasn't as captivating as I'd hoped, but I imagine it will grow on me.

Ritual De Lo Habitual by Jane's Addiction
Sep 01 2022

I'm running into an issue here. I keep listening to these albums while I do my work. However, that means that I cannot focus truly on the music. As soon as I begin to pay attention to the songs towards the end, I'm noticing a lot that I like about this band. The vocals are surprisingly nice to my taste, I love the sound of every instrument, and the melodies are good. Yet, I can't bring myself to think it's more than a 3 or 3.5. I can only conclude that this will be something that would grow on me since there really isn't anything I dislike; just not a whole lot that blows me away.

Sep 02 2022

Classic songs in a classic performance. I'm not as big into Nirvana as I was years ago, so perhaps that's why I'm not head over heels here. Still, a performance for the ages.

Maggot Brain by Funkadelic
Sep 05 2022

What a ride! The title track is such a gripping and moving work of art. The funk surely spreads quickly after this song ends and begins discordant chaos. It's fun and groovy, but I feel it doesn't always land perfectly. I'd say there are some weaker spots in the second half, but Super Stupid was definitely a highlight on the side B.

System Of A Down by System Of A Down
Sep 07 2022

This was great. I liked it a lot. There were times where I thought their sound might grow a little stale, but before I knew it something exciting would happen. I'll be coming back to SOAD for sure.

Future Days by Can
Sep 08 2022

Nice listen. I can't say I'm blown away, but I definitely enjoyed it. Great ambient album. High 3 stars

1989 by Taylor Swift
Sep 09 2022

This was damn good. I guess I'm a Swiftie now

The Queen Is Dead by The Smiths
Sep 12 2022

The Smiths have been a band I've loved since I was in middle school so this album has always had a place in my heart. since the Queen's passing 2 days ago it only means that much more rip i guess

Pump by Aerosmith
Sep 13 2022

Some decent songs on here, but I just don't get the love for Aerosmith

Sep 14 2022

I enjoyed this quite a bit! Can't say I loved every song equally but there were many that made me bob my head incessantly and made me think about life lol

Crocodiles by Echo And The Bunnymen
Sep 15 2022

I was expecting more. I like the sound a lot, but I feel there was something lacking here. I know they developed their song writing over the next few albums, so I'll be excited to hear more.

Crime Of The Century by Supertramp
Sep 16 2022

Fun listen, nothing spectacular in my honest opinion

Remain In Light by Talking Heads
Sep 19 2022

Classic. I really enjoy a lot of the tracks here and could listen almost anytime
