Frampton Comes Alive
Peter Frampton
I honestly didn’t thought I’d give it a five stars but truth is, I really liked listening to this album. It has the energy of a great live album, and even though I didn’t know that much songs, I stayed hooked on my first listening ! The audience is on fire. Surprised also by the quality of Frampton’s guitar play, there’s some killer licks and solo. Of course the last track “Do you feel like we do”is a definite banger and Frampton makes good uses of talkbox. Anyway a fine discovery and definitely among my favourite live albums.

Brilliant Corners
Thelonious Monk
Monk really is a king of harmonies and “good-sounding” dissonances. A masterclass album. Plus, Sonny Rollins is on fire ! Love the whole album especially the wonderful blues Ba Lue Bolivar Ba Lues Are.

Jefferson Airplane
Brilliant album. Of course I already knew Jefferson Airplane but I hadn’t had the chance to listen to an entire album of theirs before : what a colourful experience ! Though very psychedelic, the album highlights true blues and folk influences (“In the Morning” and “Embryonic Journey” are my two favorites, plus the mind blowing “How do you feel”). Of course the two bangers “White Rabbit” and “Somebody to love” (thanks to the amazing Grace Slick) are the must-hear of the album, but they shouldn’t sum up the whole album which is so diverse and so good. It’s a 5/5, obviously.

A jazz fusion classic. Jaco Pastorious is so good, such a unique bass sound. Of course « Birdland » is a true masterpiece in itself but the whole album is really good.

A Hard Day's Night
Beatles
Of course like many fans I prefer the later Beatles period but this album is probably one of their best early-years ones. First of all it’s all original songs. Some of them sound even more « modern » than others from 1964. McCartney/Lennon prove their songwriting talents and their ability to create simple yet not that simple melodies. Though not as elaborated as their later period albums, A Hard Day’s Night still shows some audacious chords changes and original arrangements. Of course my favourite song is “And I Love Her” which for me could totally have been a post-Rubber Soul song. Brilliant album. Loved it.

Emerson, Lake & Palmer
I love prog rock and I think ELP are really great musicians. However I think there is better prog rock material than this album. Don’t get me wrong there’s some great material in it (classical guitar solos are neat) but there’s a general feeling that it’s “too much” (in a prog rock sens of course). Ambition, still very solid but there is some more enjoyable rock prog material out there in my opinion.

Revolver
Beatles
The thing with the Beatles is not to wonder whether the album is good, but it is to know which one of them is the TRUE masterpiece. "Revolver" is probably my favorite Beatles album pre-Sgt Pepper. So good it makes up for all the crap I've had to listen to this past few weeks. Plus, it has one of my very favorite songs of all time on it : "Tomorrow never knows", which is insanely good. Maybe "Revolver" IS the Fab Four's secret masterpiece, though it is often overtaken by Abbey Road or Sgt Pepper... Can't answer that... But I can definitely say that "Revolver" is a true 5/5 piece of art.
