Doolittle by Pixies
Sep 15 2022

First two songs have a bass intro, that's kinda neat. I love that it sounds like it was recorded in someone's garage. Here Comes Your Man kind of sounds like an R.E.M. song Albums in the same genre released this year: Nirvana - Bleach Faith no More - The Real Thing Motley Crue - Dr. Feelgood The Cult - Sonic Temple Not my preference in music but I definitely appreciate the half punk half rock garage band feel. Probably going to hit it with a 7 or 3.5 whatever the scale is. Favorite song: Hey or Wave of Mutilation

Bitches Brew by Miles Davis

The Renaissance by Q-Tip

:pepejam: My bose ad began with the words 'when the world gets in the way of your music.' I would like to unsubscribe from self aware ads. Fantastic production. I'm not done but i'm feelin a 5/5 today Favorite songs: Johnny Is Dead and ManWomanBoogie

Pretzel Logic by Steely Dan

Sep 26 2022

This is the most indie shit i've heard in a while, I would have loved this back in 7th grade. I like the drummer's style a lot. Some of the songs are kind of samey but there's definitely highlights and I enjoyed the listen 3.5/5 (4/5)

Wild Is The Wind by Nina Simone
Sep 27 2022

This is the kind of thing this list is for, I think. I never would have listened to something like this on my own volition. This is almost so moody I can't relate to it. Some of the songs like 'That's All I Ask' really punch when they crescendo but the spaces in between can be plodding. I don't think this will necessarily end up on any playlists but I liked some moments in this a lot. I think it's just a little slow and threadbare musically for my tastes. Her voice is lovely and truly unique. Favorite song: Lilac Wine 3/5

Paul's Boutique by Beastie Boys
Sep 29 2022

4/5 Classic stuff, I had never heard this entire album but I liked it.

Love this album. Funeral for a friend is one of the best songs of all time.

Blue Lines by Massive Attack
Oct 05 2022

I expected to enjoy this since I've always liked 'Teardrop' (the theme to the show House). I get mad leftfield vibes which is probably fitting since they developed in parallel in the UK electronic scene. I dug this. It's not transcendental but super listenable. It's better than just 'okay' as well. 4/5

Can't Buy A Thrill by Steely Dan
Oct 11 2022

Copying and pasting my thoughts from a different listening group having this a week ago: Great grooves 4/5

The La's by The La's
Oct 13 2022

catchy and poppy. I don't hate it but I probably won't revisit

Tea for the Tillerman by Cat Stevens
Oct 17 2022

heartfelt and truly a masterwork of songwriting. Father and son resonates on a visceral level having experienced both perspectives. 5/5

Gorillaz by Gorillaz
Oct 18 2022

always groovy, and a much more punky sound than some of their later work. 4/5

Apocalypse Dudes by Turbonegro
Oct 26 2022

perfectly alright mid 90s punk. Short angry songs that are listenable and then immediately forgettable. 3/5

Head Hunters by Herbie Hancock
