I can hear pre-punk on the album, but the cacophonic nature of most songs (minus Sara) make it a less than appealing entry in an otherwise excellent discography.
Pleasantly surprised by how much I liked Jig-Saw Puzzle.
Feels like two albums: one thoughtfully written and the other a haphazard assemblage of guitar riffs and meandering melodic lines. One Rainy Wish is the only standout song and even it fails to deliver.
Ambient yet driven, the album feels like a concept yet acts like a diary of singular emotions. Feels like Portishead and Poe had a musical baby.
Clearly a concept album, Wish You Were Here paints kaleidoscopic imagery as synth and guitar swirl around the listener. Somehow manages to sound like a jam band and thoroughly orchestrated simultaneously. A highlight of its decade.
What a banger!
Solid album but contains dated, misogynistic references.
Two good songs round out an otherwise forgettable album replete with uninspired melodies and lyrics.
Waters' polished, evocative style paired with his experienced vocals made this a rare live album I enjoyed.
Rene and Mad John are standout songs, but the rest of the album is endemic of the place and time it was recorded: loud, distorted unnecessarily, uninspired.
Decent background music but doesn't stand out...seems in the vein Smashmouth's jazzier tunes.
Excellent album for studying or working. Chill, expressive vibe throughout the first three tracks.
Artistically valid but not my cup of tea (generally love Bowie).
Two good songs.
4/5
A few great songs and a lot of amazing singing paired with mediocre lyrics and uninspired melodic lines.
