Franz Ferdinand

A moody soundtrack that might be good if I was hearing it while watching a movie I wanted to see, but alas, no.
I'm not a metal fan but I don't mind giving some a close listen on occasion because the best bands seem to take their playing seriously. This one is pretty generic; simple lyrics give an excuse to bang on some drums and get those guitars screaming. Not bad, but doesn't leave me wishing for more.
A pleasure to give this one a try. No deep concepts here and no video to distract; at core the music had some pleasant surprises. Good enough that I'll probably eventually listen to it again and try out some of their other albums.
Happy to give this a close listen. Interesting timing because this could be heard as a "response to Sgt. Pepper" album, but this one came first! Has the distinctive Byrds sound, but really not much else to recommend. A rather dull experience, indicative of how The Byrds don't have enough great songs to fill up a greatest hits album.
Good material that I didn't mind listening to once, but an album of cover songs doesn't begin to make up for a career that didn't get to happen.
not terrible, but a mix of stuff that I didn't much like, especially the jazzy bits
some good bits, but mostly felt like a series of failed experiments
I don't get the appeal of Elvis Costello. There are a few moments where something interesting is trying to break through in this one, but overall this is just unpleasant listening.
I gather this is an influential album, but sorry, it doesn't do it for me.
some fun bits, nothing really tedious
not my style of music, but a lot of clever lyrics and ideas in the songs
I am not fond of Steely Dan, who are interesting musicians but don't seem to have anything interesting to say in their lyrics. Nonetheless this was worth a listen, and yet still disappointed a bit. Their singing needs some work and the music gets boring by the end.
He wrote some popular pop songs. Here's an album. He seemed pretty bitter about his lady leaving him, that sort of thing. Not terrible overall, but I wasn't really feeling it.
some good bits, but a whole album of this is way too much
didn't excite me, blended into the background after a while
