Either Or
Elliott Smith
Took me back to high school. I remember hearing a couple of Elliott Smith tracks on a sampler CD from Journey's with Duncan Sheik and a few others and his tracks blew my mind. Then I heard one of his songs in Good Will Hunting and he was on the Oscar's performing and it feel so cool to know who Elliott Smith was when no one else at home did.
I bought this album and one day my dad drove my truck...that night he gave me a lecture about the kind of music I was listening to because ES said fuck or something. Good times 😂

Different Class
Pulp
Not my jam. Technically fine, but found most of the tracks shared a sonic sameness that didn't really grab me.

Frank
Amy Winehouse
She had an amazing voice and I wish this album had featured with a more in your face mix. The production feels the wrong side of sparse in places without really putting the focus on Amy's voice in those key moments.

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Was going to go 4 stars, but Breakdown and American Girl are stand out gems on a pretty run of the mill album beyond those tracks. A mishmash of country and slow rock showcasing a band trying to find their style. Also, why is Tom Petty wearing a bandolier with bullets on this album cover?

Feels like the soundtrack to a lazy late Saturday lunch. Great to relax to, not anything I'd usually seek out.

Samba is samba and it's fine but not a go to genre, so hitting this after the Getz/Gilberto album felt like a retread

The Beau Brummels
Proto-roots rock. It definitely feels like a late 60's record from a band that started in San Francisco, probably the biggest deal about this record is the throughline to American Beauty

Never Mind The Bollocks, Here’s The Sex Pistols
Sex Pistols
The Sex Pistols would've absolutely owned shitposting Twitter. It's hard to separate this album from what we know about the band and the time they emerged in. It's soaked with meaning beyond anything the band ever intended.

RIP Outkast, you changed the game and put ATL on the hip-hop map

Probably the first great hip-hop record, it's hard to hear as groundbreaking in a world shaped by what this crew put together. Spotify has a deluxe version that included some flow without instrumentation and I loved those bonus tracks
