BIG classic! You can feel the stature of Dusty Springfield as an influence on generations of Pop and Soul artists.
Musical milestone and solid 4/5 in my book.
Fav tracks: The Windmills Of Your Mind, Son Of A Preacher Man
Good synths go brrrrz. Psychedelia videogame-core on point. It could have done without a couple of the weaker songs, otherwise it is good vibes all around with this debut.
Fav tracks: Default, Waveforms
Classic early-noughties’ record whose best feature is the level of music contamination and genre-bending. Most importantly, it is fun AF.
It does not get more than a 4/5 because the concept of ‘Gorillaz’ as a band still felt a little gimmicky and the album never reaches the peaks of ‘Demon Days’.
Fav tracks: Tomorrow Comes Today, Sound Check (Gravity)
What a Rock album! What a Blues album! Although any judgement is inevitably obscured by the knowledge that this was Joplin’s last, released posthumously, the quality is unquestionable.
Some of the songs are probably not in their intended final form, but the rawness and the nude emotions just drip out of them, they are soaked in the stuff.
5 unavoidable stars!
Fab tracks: Cry Baby, My Baby
Not my favourite album by The Doors. Not their best. Still solid just does not sound as iconic as their debut or L.A. Woman.
It’s The Doors in good forma so an almost 4/5 anyways.
Fav Tracks: Waiting For The Sun, Peace Frog
Beautiful piano jazz. It just does not do much for me apart from being good background music. It gets a 3.5/5.
Fav ‘track’: Pt. II B
A double album where a lot is going on. Almost too much. With themes that go from the apocalyptic to the inspirational (in the religious sense), addresses to lovers, nature, fathers: this record has its highs and its lows.
The two faces of the music and lyrics, the more classic ‘dark’ Cave and the hopeful almost uplifting streak, are reflected in the tendencies towards their classic style on one hand and a more mainstream attitude in the other.
A weak 4/5.
FaV tracks: Abattoir Blues, O children
This album has spawned many an imitator, creating with an authentic mythology rappers still try to replicate today.
Fav tracks: Rainy Dayz, Heaven & Hell
One of the highest peaks of electric guitar music ever reached. Jimi Hendrix is undeniably one of the greatest and listening to this album is all you need to feel the influence that he’s had on the music scene as a whole.
Just stunning 5/5
Fav tracks: Purple Haze, The Wind Cries Mary
