Young Americans
David BowieGreat album, but I have a weird relationship with Bowie. It is in this “really good, I like to come around to him once in awhile”-space, but it is not something I get really sucked into (not a guilty pleasure of mine).

Some of the songs have a chaotic and disharmonious feel (e.g. "The Duchess"). This is just not really my thing. I am more straight, simple, and basic in my taste. I don't think that the album is bad, but it just does not really align with my taste.
Again, Bowie perhaps doesn’t quite hit home cleanly for me. His soundscape clashes a bit with my sensibilities. Most of the guitar sounds are not really my cup of tea, and I really think that the whole “let’s have a random saxophone play some solo in a rock song” was a bad trend. Some of the later songs on the album (e.g. set the world on fire) I thought were good.
Actually thought this was pretty cool. I haven’t really gone deep into Jack White but it had a good energy, and you gotta respect a good fuzz guitar.
Easy 5 stars; grew up with and love this album. Just incredibly good. Will say that I think it tapers off a bit (I think that the first half is stronger than the second half) but it is all really special.
Hard for me to rate a rap album. I thought it was pretty cool, but my ears are just not attuned to the subtleties of this genre.
Again, hard for me to really judge. Feel a bit bad for just giving 3-stars to these rap albums.
Thought this was really nice; definitely want to check out more of their backlog.
This album was incredibly good; I cannot believe I have not heard about this before (somehow). Easily a five star album, gave it at least two spins yesterday. Need to dive really deep into this. Just love the vibe. The first song on the album is amazing!
Some really good stuff, but a lot of it was too chaotic for my taste
Unfortunately didn't have time to listen to the whole thing yesterday. In general, I thought there were moments of genius, but again, a lot of it felt disorganized to me--e.g., there was a song with just random guitar licks (not played very well I thought). Perhaps I've just gotten too used to modern productions which are more clean, but I had mixed feelings about this one. Would like to give it another spin though and listen to it from end-to-end in one setting with my full attention.
Really good, and of course a couple of the hits have some "flashback" power for me--e.g. my childhood band played "Talking About My Generation". Has a distinct Beatles vibe to my ears. Not quite sure how much of that comes from the production, composition, melodies, or instrumentation. I think a big part of it is the usage of--and sound of--the backing vocals/choir. Incredibly long album, which could get 5 stars, but I'll leave myself a bit of room for something to really knock me out of my chair.
Mixed feelings about this one. On the one hand it has that really impressive youthful energy, and some of the best U2 songs (e.g. Sunday Bloody Sunday, New Year's Day). On the other hand I feel like there are too many fillers on this album to really aim for five stars.
Not really my cup of tea. Some of it gave me Sting/Police vibes.
Felt a bit all over the place; some songs I liked but also a lot of stuff I wasn't that interested in.
Classics all the way; such a vintage vibe. Must be one of the most sampled albums—at least a couple of the songs I know better from subsequent sampled versions.
Absolute classic; Bowie is someone I don't enjoy listening to too often, but this is really a banger album.
This was really cool. I haven't heard about them before, but I really liked most of it.
Super interesting stuff, but too dark and chaotic for me to really enjoy. Perhaps would be cool at some point to just lie down and give it full attention and really sink into that world.
Way to chaotic and all over the place.
