Not my cup of tea.
I like loud music but from the constant harmonica to the twangy Clangy guitars this was positively cacophonous to the point that it gave me a headache.
It felt like a much older collection of songs than 1977, and it hasn’t really worn well. 2/5
Not 100% my cup of tea, it was released 2 years before I was born, but I can appreciate the beauty of these tracks. In fact the more I listened the more it grew on me. Carole has the kind of voice I like, kind of a more laid back folksy version of Suzi Quatro. Not every song is a belter but I’ve heard many of them before. My first brush with them was probably as a cover version and it’s easy to see why so many are covered. What did astound me though, was to learn that she actually co-wrote Will you still love me tomorrow first recorded by the Shirelles, which is the version I’m more familiar with. Arguably the most well known track on the album A Natural Woman, is the one I don’t think I’ve ever heard Kings version, having now done so I think it’s probably my favourite version.
On the whole a great ‘easy listening’ album. Upgraded from 3 to 4/5 after hearing the final track.
Bon Scott era AC/DC Is a bit too before my time for it to have really been on my radar but I have to say this is my kind of music even though classic rock isn’t my first rock love. From the song everyone has heard of in Highway to Hell which of a little cliched you have to admit is a cracking opening track, to the final slightly plodding finale Night Prowler there isn’t a bad record on this album. I’m giving the prize for my favourite song to Beating Around the Bush. And a solid 4/5 for the album
I wrote the review for this days ago but didn’t save it. TBH I’m not a massive Queen fan and I wouldn’t really care if I didn’t hear this album again. It was a meh for me but wouldn’t go out of my way to listen to it again. 2/5
I don’t think I’ll ever be in the mood for listening to this so I may as well get it over with.
Bland bland boring yawn
The only thing remotely interesting on it is Shake it Off. The whole thing sounds the same all the way through 1/5
I was not looking forward to this;
It was thankfully a short album. I’ve tried in the past and just can’t get along with Dylan, it’s always puzzled me why my mother owns a Bob Dylan album!
This album didn’t elicit a single emotional reaction from me other than irritation at the nonsense lyrics, cacophonous music, and off-key warbling. If I had to pick a ‘favourite’ track it’s ironically the final track 'Desolation Row’ 1/5
I wrote a review on this last night, but fell asleep before posting because it bored me to death. Just Madonna trying too hard to stay relevant and Frozen is the only song remotely worth listening to. 2/5
I didn’t initially think I’d ever come across this guy before. I have a deep dislike for singers with lazy enunciation which I had to try to put aside in order to listen objectively. This is, in essence a good collection of songs that I probably would have liked more if sung by someone else. It just feels like an English guy trying too hard to sound American blues-y
Too much affectation for the sake of it, too much twangy guitar.
I realised when I got to ‘May You Never’ that I had in fact heard it before, it wasn’t my thing then and it still isn’t. That being said that is probably the best song on this album.
Overall, really irritating but at the same time bored me to tears.
For a debut album, this set the bar high.
For me, this has to be one of the best albums of the 20th century.
Linkin Park is one of my all-time favourite bands, every track on this is an absolute banger and as a whole this album only serves to make one miss the presence of Chester Bennington all the more. There will never be anyone quite like him. 5/5
I quite like Norah Jones overall. I’m not familiar with much of her stuff and I think I only became aware of her because she collaborated with a Foo Fighters on In Your Honour.
This was a nice easy listen and my favourite track was quite predictably Come Away With Me, which has been in a couple of my Spotify playlists for a while now. Not an earth shattering album but certainly nothing objectionable about any of it. A solid 3/5
I liked this, I was born a little too late to truly appreciate Numan when he was popular and I was only 6 when this was released. I’ll give it a 3/5 just because it didn’t make the earth move for me but I enjoyed listening.
35 years ago when I was a teenager this may have been cool but at 50 years of age listening to this just feels sad.
The lyrics are crap, and the rapping is poor, in fact it’s so plodding you can barely even call it rap. Some of the music is ok, toe tapping even but all the posturing about d!ck size, bitches, gats and AK’s gets old really fast. It’s a joke really and it actually makes me feel ancient 🤦🏼♀️ 2/5 because I’ve heard worse and even Express Yourself isn’t enough to elevate it to a 3.
Not what I was expecting. 4 songs in and I want to nope right out but I promised myself I’d actually give every album a fair chance. Why did I do that? If I ever make such a promise again remind me of the painful experience listening to this whole album was. Thankfully only 38 minutes long, even though it feels like 38 hours. 1/5 because 0/5 just isn’t possible.
Never been a massive Bowie fan and I wasn’t familiar with this. Seems more of an EP than a whole album at 38 minutes long, the only song I know from it was Golden Years.
Not Bowies best but nothing earth shattering. A middle of the road 3/5
