Bob Marley & The Wailers
Initial thoughts: Title track (track 5), was low probably the weakest song. But then its followed up by the classic Jammin'. Halfway through, solid 4/5. Alexis says album is enhanced if I light up, we'll see if I partake lmao
Final thoughts: Great reggae album. Definitely a staple in the genre, and a great example of why Bob Marley is still as famous as he is.

Marvin Gaye

Final Thoughts: Strong start, follow ups were mid but ultimately brought back by the back half.

Metallica
Initial thoughts:
Wow, what a throwback. I will confess I've never listened to the album front to back though, excited for this one.
Final thoughts:
They say that structure of metal is similar to classical music. Listening to this album, I found it fascinating to how true that saying was. However, this album took that saying way too literally. More than half of the album had the same basic structure. So much so, that I even found myself wanting to skip songs because it really felt like I already heard it.
Now, the iconic songs truly cannot be beat. Throw in some nostalgia glasses of me and Zack playing guitar hero until 1am while trying not to wake his parents, and these songs really are so good. Enter Sandman, Sad But True, Nothing Else Matters, these are songs that even people who don't listen to this genre will recognize, and for good reason too, they are fantastic pieces of music. Sadly can't say the same for the rest of the album. Some songs were just so... boring...? On my second listen I listened through my hi-fi set up and the mastering was excellent, so I guess they got that going for them. But still so... weak...?
Does this album deserve 2? No. Does this album reach a 3? Barely. I would probably rate it 2.8, so rounded up we have:

Nick Drake
Initial thoughts:
Never heard of this guy. Apparently he's like a 70's staple????
Final thoughts:
Wow. Simplicity at it's finest. If I found this album in my 'depresso more espresso' days, this album wouldve fucked me up. Or realistically I would be listening to this as much as I listened to The Smith's.
tbh I had it in the background and it was kinda generic folk/songwriter kind of things. But the guitar riff halfway in "Things Behind The Sun" pulled me out of what I was doing, and I know it warranted a careful listen. At a runtime of 28 minutes, easy peasy.
After two full listens, wow. Makes me want to take a trip up a hill barefoot with nothing but my guitar.

The Allman Brothers Band
Initial thoughts:
I felt dumb because I looked for the studio version to find out that one doesn't exist.
Final thoughts:
Ooo baby, some good ol' southern rock n blues. Tbh reminds me of live music I'd hear at some bbq restaurant in middle of texas hill country that i drove an hour to get to. You know the place, you can almost smell the hay and mesquite. You can definitely tell this was an infuential band for future artists like Stevie Ray Vaughan and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Not a bad vibe for sure.
Seeing that this is from the 70's I can see that this is right in the beginning of the evolution of rock. The blues is a huge giveaway, and I'd have to say I really liked their blues sound more than their rock sound. And look, I understand this was live, in the 70's, and "feelin the blues", but holy shit man. Jamming for ~20 minutes for two songs is... Definitely feeling the blues LOL
Didn't add anything to my library, but I can see myself revisiting this album later. Maybe skipping the 20 minutes songs, but this was definitely a fun one to listen to.

The Human League
Initial thoughts:
Woo! Moving on to the 80's! Our first pop album too! Never heard of this guys, so I'm curious where this will go.
Final thoughts:
DONT YOU WANT ME BABY? DONT YOU WANT ME OOOOOOHHHHHHHHHH
Iconic pop songs, some of the pop melodies are even used to this day. I even spotted a few sounds that have definitely been sampled by various other artists. Genre defining for sure, but is it just me or does it feel like outside of the iconic songs the rest of the album seems half baked?

Ooo! What I love about this site is that it's giving me the opportunity to listen to albums all the way through, whereas I would only listen to the iconic songs. Let's listen to some American rock! \m/
Final Thoughts:
Suuuuper old school rock. Obviously. I really liked this album, each track was unique which I really liked. A bit on the slower side, but I feel like that's just how it is with this era of rock.
Solid album!

Bringing It All Back Home
Bob Dylan
Initial thoughts:
I've always known about Bob Dylan, because who hasn't. I will admit, I've never heard any of his music, so I'm interested to see if this album showcases why he is as famous as he is.
Final thoughts:
Hmm. Idk about this one. Don't get me wrong, it was good. I've realized that I know Bob Dylan because it seems like everyone and their mother covers his songs. Which is why he's considered a great singer/songwriter, but I guess his style of folk wasn't my cup of tea. Still, it was good so I give it a

Who Killed...... The Zutons?
The Zutons
Initial thoughts:
WHO?
Final thoughts:
Yo, this is actually so sick. I actually saved some of these songs! The songs in the album are weird, but in a good way. They use some sounds that challenged my taste, but I grew to like them as the album went on. Catchy riffs and upbeat singing, what's not to like.

Initial Thoughts:
Oh brother, another album from the 60's... Gonna try not to think about the era and listen with no bias.
Final Thoughts:
Do I just not like this era? I'm really starting to think that. I mean, the album was OKAY. Season of the Witch was hands down the best song, but even then it was my favorite. I'm usually a fan a psychedelic, but I think I realized that I like synth psychadelic. Either way, I can appreciate the talent, but this wasnt for me.

Good album, wished it was more catchy (see meme above). I feel like this album is that "safe zone" in a video game before you fight a boss. A place to save, heal up, and ready for the end of the game.

Gorillaz
Initial Thoughts:
Oh. This is probably gonna be the group's highest rated album. Gonna be honest ya'll, looking at the track list I've only listened to Clint Eastwood. So I'm about to see what the hype is all about.
Final Thoughts:
Uh... Definitely not what I expected. It was good, but you can definitely tell this was like the beginning of Damon experimenting with Gorillaz. It really felt like he was still being too safe and it isn't the Gorillaz for who we know. This album does have a few bangers, but all in all an okay album. 3.5.

Initial Thoughts:
Sick. I'm a fan of RHCP and I'm sure I'll enjoy it.
Final Thoughts:
What else is there to say that this really embodies the sound of this band. You have a bunch of different and unique songs as the album plays. Each member really has a distinct style that blends really well together. I'm 'eh' about his rapping, he has some lyrics that are really good, but I personally don't like his rapping style.
All in all I enjoyed the album.

Initial Thoughts:
Oh! All girl rock band from the 90's? Sign me up!
Final Thoughts:
Sick. Very garage band energy, where the vibe is very raw. Some nice blends of rock and punk. That being said, not all the songs here were bangers. But when they hit, they hit.

Okay okay I'll admit it. I've only heard like three Stevie Wonder songs.

Initial Thoughts:
Oh we international now.
Final Thoughts:
I appreciate albums like this, because it shows how different cultures will approach music. I studied music for a while and I remember an entire period where we studied music from South East Asia/India because of how unique their approach to music is. It was nice to listen to a "modern" iteration of this music instead of the classical pieces I studied in school.
