There's not a weak song on this album, it starts with huge energy and that keeps going. It makes me a little sad that they moved from this indie style to the crooning later on but I suppose they couldn't have kept this up forever.
An album of two tracks and a lot of filler. Radio Free Europe's a legitimate banger and Talk About the Passion a distant second. The rest is unmemorable whiny bollocks. Album really doesn't belong in any 'top of' anything. I suppose when it was released it could be considered ground braking vs what else was around in 1982 but it's not aged well at all. Pass.
That album highlight "Life during wartime" is still very relevant today shows how smart the observation is through the full length of this album over 40 years later. This is a fascinating, funny and entertaining loaded with anger, panic, confusion, petty annoyances, paranoia, fear all packed up into something that could be chaos but ends up being a fantastic packet of uniqueness to be treasured. A true masterpiece.
A pioneering electropop album that's still very listenable today and almost new sounding. More accessible than many of Kraftwerk's works, with stuff to bop along too. Outstanding tracks are The Robots and The Model, both feel like they belong to a larger concept work. In the main actually an enjoyable poppy listen rather than the bleeps and pops of some of the other Kraftwork stuff.
Bookended by two stunning songs but there's a whole lot of unmemorable stuff in between.
Yawn
This album carries a palpable sense of grieving, with each chord striking a note of melancholy that resonates with the loss the band endured. It's a sombre ode, a heavy metal requiem that reverberates with the agony and the relentless pursuit of justice, both in a literal and metaphorical sense. Flawed, ambitious, unbalanced, creative, sad and angry. Quite special.
It's the beasties worst record, the rhymes are cheesy the drum machine is simply dreadful, quite a lot of it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever unless you were in their direct friend group. Is it real, is it a parody? Does anyone give a damn? They don't that's for sure!
They quit doing this pretty soon after it was released and it cost them a fortune to not do this any more and what they did instead was so much better, but despite that...
It's brilliant; There's some cracking lines even if you don't understand them. "No Sleep" may not have invented RapRock but it nailed it so hard everyone forgot the Chilli's and RUN DMC for a short while. Stupid, refreshing, funny, rocking, busting. Ace.
The similarities to yesterday's Beasty Boys album are obvious: this is a formative album hastily constructed that rode a wave of popularity that the band ultimately got off. There's consequences of that all over, it's rough, the lyrics are often mundane, there's themes here that really aren't ones you want to get behind...
It's raw and powerful though, the punchy songs reflect the period and it still feels pretty fresh and lively today.
Extreme contrasts
OK, but pretty bland. Very unexceptional musically, awful lyrically, lacking creativity or any other reason to stand out. One reasonably entertaining hit in an album of meh. Don't understand it's inclusion in any best of list.
Fun and funky but a bit annoying too
The album's blend of electronic and traditional instruments is a welcome change and resonates even years after its release.
It's hard to listen without your brain assuming it's Christmas music. Nice background but just not really my bag outside of December.
The genius here in this genre crossing romp is the sampling. Bits and pieces from a collection of noise brought together in a tight seamless loop that bounces, bangs, crashes and bops along in a tight engaging way that encourages a full listen all the way through. Not a musical masterpiece in the traditional sense, but it's a celebration of dance, pop, and the joys of sampling. It's Fatboy Slim's party, you just have to dance along.
You can hear the influences and what it's influenced so much it sounds almost generic and early tracks make it feel like a parody of punk rather than anything more interesting. Dig a little deeper and there is much more to this, it has a daft number of tracks, many of them short enough to sound like ideas that didn't get finished and there's some interesting depth in that as you travel through, particularly when the energy levels change or they move further away from the standard punk style. Flawed but interesting.
First listen for me outside of the one big hit on this. It's like a crunchy daft punk and probably more to my taste because if that. Goes in some unexpected directions, but all in very entertaining. It got liked in spot, so I'll be coming back.
A blast of raw anguish held together with soaring alt rock power. Essential.

Nice bit of nu wave emo power pop for us crush addled 14 year old nerds to relate to alone in our bedrooms. Some iffy moments but mostly stands up today mixed in to a dinner party playlist.
Every song is like Monday.
Some varied styles on here and not all of it lands but worth coming back to for the outstanding bits that do. Progtastic.
A couple of genuine synth pop classics but with some really naff forgettable filler.
Simply a masterpiece. There's no filler on this and some major highs. Dazed and Confused remains an absolute banger.
Groundbreaking and still sounds amazing. Some of the tech wrangling is a little grating now but it makes up for that with the quality.
