Exodus by Bob Marley & The Wailers
Oct 10 2023

Many hits on album, three little birds, jammin, one love. Mixture of religious themes and an heroic outward looking positivity. Prophetic with eternal themes such as the lure iniquity for short term pleasures. I can understand Bob Marley's place as an icon of peace and a force for good after listening. This music must been a salvation for alot of people in many of dark places, most of all probably Bob Marley himself. Dont eat the bread of sorrow, buy exodus today!

Mothership Connection by Parliament
Oct 11 2023

Honestly most of this album sounds like generic 70s funk to me. But Mothership connection and give up the funk are truly awesome. Maybe the rest of the album will grow on me, but maybe they're just a greatest hits kind of band rather than an album one. Having said that the musicianship is flawless and there's many interesting sounds throughout. I cant decide if its a a synth on the last track or its a engineer stood outside a toilet stool with mic on the worse day of George Clinton's life. I'd give the album 3 stars as a whole but the two songs i mentioned earn it an extra star.

The Slim Shady LP by Eminem
Oct 14 2023

I don't like this album as much as when i was a kid, to me it sounds like dr dre deliberately made eminem go in a more mainstream poopy direction which kind of bothers me now. But without this album would i even have heard of eminem? The Slim Shady Ep to me if the pinnacle of Enimems output and its pretty much a demo of this album. But it feels honest and raw in a way this just doesn't, its too slick to me. Btw if you want to hear a raw performance of my name is check out paste magazine 'watch a pre slim shady perform my name is' article.

I enjoyed this especially they're hanging me tonight, big iron and el paso. Apparently the album was recorded in one 8 hour session which impressive considering the band sounds so tight. Especially Marty Robbins himself who really feels at ease singing these songs even though i think melodically they're quite tricky to sing. Alot of notes to get stuck on. But it adds a sence of authenticity when they all sound so relaxed. It s like the fun, adventure and sorrow conveyed in the lyrics were reflected in the pressures and joy in the playing of the whole band. What i mean is a cowboy record recorded in 1959 might be called phony but if the theme were a vehicle for artists to express themselves isn't that what arts about?

Bryter Layter by Nick Drake
Dec 13 2023

Sometimes the orchestration is too loud and you cant hear nick. I wish they'd make a bryter layter remix with a more stripped down production.
