Seems like good music to listen to when your in your feels. I feel like it has alot of Guns N’ Roses influence, but not totally sure about the timeline so I could be wrong. Epitome of grunge. “Rain when I die” is a banger. “Rooster” is a banger…. Sick man is ass. The album has really cool harmonies and incredible guitar. Drums are also very cool, I hear a lot of Neil Peart/ Rush influences. Not necessarily my taste in music, some of the songs sound like a heroin addict made it in a strung out daze. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, especially given the genre and time period, just not something I would listen to on a regular basis.
Funkadelic is the perfect name. Really great guitar. Hendricks vibes. Zappa vibes. Fun album, not too serious. Seems highly original.
God! What an album! This album is so dynamic, you could listen to this passively to study or chill out, or you can listen to it actively and rock out if you want. Springsteen is highly unique and doesn’t really fall into a specific genre or generation. I listened to this album back-to-back 5 times today. It felt like the right album in every situation I was in. It is both energetic and fun while also being relaxing and somber. My family loves Springsteen but I’ve never really given him much of a thoughtful listen until now. Definitely changed my perspective and I can see myself listening to this album for the rest of my life.
Absolutely a banger album. Cajun as fuck. I listened to this album twice today and it put me in such a great mood. I feel like I’m on a raft going through rural Louisiana. Haven’t listened to CCR in a while and forgot how much I love them.
Very nice. I was in the studio working for about 8 hours just listening to this on repeat while I worked. Very easy listening, every once in a while I’d stop to think about the song and just listen to the different time signatures fighting with each other but still having a sense of harmony. Not something I’d listen to in the car or anything, but definitely something to put on while working. I found myself looking up who sampled these songs multiple times. I’m convinced that there are a lot of parts of this album that were sampled unofficially, because throughout the whole album I hear familiar riffs but can’t figure out where I’d heard it before.
I listened to this album 4 times. The first time I thought that this album feels more like a display of technical skills as opposed to a really great piece of music. But as I listened again, this time more actively, the album began to grow on me. This album is great. It really feels like I am in the studio with the band and they are having fun and jamming.
I wrote a lot and then it deleted for some reason. So in short: this is my favorite album. So many distinct styles blended into one cohesive project. This album is soooo dramatic, like Shakespeare or an opera. Billy Joel is such an amazing songwriter, his songs sound incredibly intimate and personal but still feel very universal and relatable. He is a master of creating tension and it’s release and resolve. Every time I listen I think of Brendan’s basement. Amazing piece of music. Scenes from an Italian restaurant is the perfect song in my opinion.
Pretty good album. I had never heard of them before and there we’re definitely some bangers. I think I need to listen to it more for it to really hit. I really liked The Killing Moon.
Yeah, this didn’t do it for me. Definitely an interesting album, some really good guitar and I’m sure it was great for the time. But it’s just way to old for me to actually enjoy. It actually kind of makes me angry because it is the sound of a generation of people I don’t like. A generation who had everything handed to them on a silver platter and the only struggle they faced was finding a wife. I mean the whole album is the same song over and over again just said in a different way. Hard for me to enjoy for that reason. Probably wouldn’t care if one or two songs were on an playlist with other artists from the 50s, but I don’t think I will ever listen to this as an album.
I was clearly not the intended audience. Interesting synths, they made it fun.
I have mixed opinions on this album. First and foremost, it was a great listen. It was so fun and high energy and took me back to middle school video games. I feel like half of the songs were on madden NHL 2010 or Tony hawks underground. The reason I have mixed emotions is because it wasn’t technically impressive in my opinion. A lot of the guitar, bass and drums felt incredibly repetitive. And while I am by no means skilled in any instrument, I got the sense that it was pretty rudimentary in terms of strum patterns and chord progressions. That being said, I think the simplicity and repetition actually worked. This whole album feels like someone unloading and entire magazine into a tree. Just an absolute release of aggression and frustration. I listened to this for the first time on the way to work today, and it fit the mood because we had a former employee threaten us last night, and I was half expecting a shootout when I arrived to work. I had to call the cops 3 times today, twice for the employee and one third time for a customer who became violent and refused to leave. So listening to this album again on my way home was a similar but totally different experience. The first listen felt like I was amping myself up for battle and the second listen felt like I was letting out all of the stress from my day.
In summary, not technically spectacular but tickled my ear worm and felt right for the moment.
I liked this album a lot more than the last. I listened to it like 7 times because I kept on forgetting to actively listen. That’s doesn’t mean I didn’t like the album, just found myself vibing and focusing on what I was doing. The album has a wide range of sound and is really fun and dynamic. There are a bunch of songs that I’d listen to on their own but idk about listening to the the full album any time soon. I liked it though
I had never heard of this band before but I like it, it’s like a mix of Bob Dylan, Sons of the pioneers and the beetles. I feel like this is perfect music to drive through the mountains with Wes in Dixie cup. Made me feel good and would definitely listen again
Best one yet. I have heard of Yes but I don’t think I’ve every actually listens to a song until now. I can’t even tell you how many times I listened to this album today. The first song on the album, close to the edge, is incredible. The song begins and I feel like I am a marble going down a marble track with all of the other marbles. I mentioned it in the group chat but I feel like this album has so many different sounds. It’s like a weird blend between Rush, tame impala, the animals, and sublime. Kinda all over the place but it blends together so naturally. That first song SHOULD be a hit classic that every dad drills into the ooey gooey minds of their impressionable sons. The whole album was terrific but that first song took me to another dimension and fucked my whole shit up. Will 100% be listening this album again.
Honestly, super upset with myself for not listening to steely Dan more often. I feel like I know many people with great music taste who all love steely Dan and I never really took it seriously. I grew up listening to this kind of music so I assumed that I had already given it a fair chance, but I don’t think I ever actually listened it’s always been background music. This album is so fun and vibey, I especially liked “Deacon Blues”. The musicality of this whole album is next level. It feels like it was composed like a jazz track, every instrument has a voice and story that keeps the listener engaged. I really get a sense of harmony as if the instruments are in conversation with each other. Definitely want to listen to more Steely Dan.
I really liked this. I had no idea what to expect coming into this but was pleasantly surprised. This album, much like electric lady land by Hendrix, feels like a jam session. While there is tons of technical sounds and arrangement, it still has a sense of improvisation that I really enjoy.
I really liked this album. It was like a soundtrack to my day. It is very funky and jazzy and good music to walk to. I really appreciated the fusion of synthesizers and traditional instruments, the contrast was interesting but it still felt cohesive.
This album was fine, Janis Joplin has an amazing voice, but I think the album was mid. I’m sure this was incredible for 1968, right before this type of sound became so popular. But from todays perspective it didn’t do it for me.
I really didn’t understand why this album was on here. I had never heard of this band before and I think it’s because they don’t offer anything new. The mixing on this album is terrible, I hear the singer and then distorted noise. I had to look up this band to see what I was missing, and apparently it said that they are responsible for “bringing back lead guitar.” Which is crazy because this album lacked instrumental separation and I couldn’t hear any sort of leading instrument. This album had nothing new to offer and not a single song that stood out.
Nice jazz album, felt weird listening to it this weekend. I was running around and super busy and this album didn’t really match the vibe. That being said, this album was a nice break and I wouldn’t mind listening to it again.
