Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park
Nov 02 2023

Classic nu-metal sound of my youth. Great at karaoke or beat saber. RIP Chester

Can't Buy A Thrill by Steely Dan
Nov 03 2023

Listened to the LP, hope it’s not the only Steely Dan on the list.

Brilliant Corners by Thelonious Monk
Nov 04 2023

Adding to the jazz rotation. Probably didn’t get the weirder bits but it was listenable to an untrained ear and maybe less overplayed than some other greats.

Gorillaz by Gorillaz
Nov 05 2023

Found it crazy that this album was so popular whilst being so inventive/genre bending. I even bought Clint Eastwood on CD - maybe my first CD single?? Maybe I have to give it a 3 because I really like the B-side, Dracula.

Dummy by Portishead
Nov 06 2023

Probably hugely influential for loads of artists I like. Also slightly unreal this was 1994. Glory Box is a classic. Wouldn’t listen again but appreciate it for what it is.

S&M by Metallica
Nov 07 2023

Between a 2 and a 3. Loved the orchestra, felt like Evanescence for men. Really enjoyed listening but can’t give it a 3 as I wouldn’t put it on again.

Roxy Music by Roxy Music
Nov 08 2023

I feel like you had to be there. As with many albums, probably influenced loads of artists I like today. And Brian Eno is great. Probably need someone to explain it to me.

Imperial Bedroom by Elvis Costello & The Attractions
Nov 09 2023

I don’t get it. Feels like music for younger male boomers?

Punishing Kiss by Ute Lemper
Nov 10 2023

Enjoyed this but wouldn’t put on again. Too close to (listening to) Elvis Costello.

Low-Life by New Order
Jan 23 2024

Could hear the influences of so many 2000s albums I loved. Would give a 3.5 if I could, was great, probably wouldn’t listen again

Black Monk Time by The Monks
Jan 24 2024

Loved it, what a story, American GIs in Germany, protopunk, krautrock, noisy madness. Probably won't listen again but gets a 4 because it's rad.

2112 by Rush
Jan 26 2024

First Rush album I've ever listened to. I do enjoy a bit of prog but maybe not this prog? Also didn't help that I listened on crappy headphones at the library, while studying. 3.5 - would probably listen again to see if I like it.

Mott by Mott The Hoople
Jan 28 2024

Eh... makes me think of when my mum puts on a song from her youth and listens to it over and over. I guess you had to be there. Kind of blends in to other glam rock (and other genres) that I am more familiar with. If Wikipedia's only reference is that it appears on '1001...' then has it really had impact? I guess it's a long list.

Live At The Star Club, Hamburg by Jerry Lee Lewis
Jan 29 2024

I didn't want to like this (underage incest marriage and worse) but I did. Would be impossible not to get sweaty from dancing to this.

The Velvet Underground by The Velvet Underground
Jan 30 2024

Enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Maybe easier/less trite to put on in the background?

Rock 'N Soul by Solomon Burke
Jan 31 2024

Fun easy listening, cool part of history.

Feb 01 2024

Boring, short, sexist, racist. Some folky bits I liked but probably done better by other artists
