so basically i have a couple pros and cons
pros:
seems to have two melodies going on at once which make it exciting
the evangellic/religious/otherwordly theme is apparent and you can feel it so it works thematically
cons:
songs feel overly long
i dislike how the main instrument playing, whether it be the saxophone or the drums, are only playing in one ear
the lyrics in the first song scared me and i hated them lol
not much variation in the melody so you're listening to very similar bits for extended periods of time
overall i would rate it a 2.5/5
cute
not sure if i like the live audience reactions but it adds character
mafia 3 vibes which i love
not quite my style of music still though
i had this weird bias against michael jackson only because he was popular/mainstream and i thought he was overrated so i never listened to his music.
after listening to the album my opinion has changed and i love it.
something about this album is just so good, i could listen to it for 2 days straight
wow!!!! just wow.
this album just sounds like childhood, it brings me so much joy. i almost teared up when i heard the upbeat trumpet with the accompanying soft lyrics. i adore this album so much.
heavily dissapointed the lead singer is not a woman. assumed this was a woman artist not a band by the name lol
meh music
also i got a headache from the super high pitched whine present throughout this album
it's interesting and there's some nice songs but there's also some weird songs like "we will fall". was a pleasant listen but wouldn't put it on myself again
simply lovely
frosti a personal favourite
nothing special, didn't dislike but also didn't love, felt almost generic
reminds me of arctic monkeys' first album in some parts. was nice enough alright
i'm going to be a bit more objective on this review than usual.
much like an actor may play a racist role in a movie and people wouldn't see them as a racist, eminem here is playing the character of slim shady. the album is offensive on purpose hence why people think this album aged like milk. yet i can see that this is what rappers used to sing about and eminem brought to light the atrocities i suppose.
very nice rhymes and lyric craft but i've seen better implementations of melody in this type of music so can't give it a 5 star rating.
3 star but "Big Ten Inch Record" brings it up to 4
some good, some bad, but overall there were more songs i disliked than liked
was pleasantly surprised by this music actually. the songs were enjoyable to listen to and i found myself listening to it all day
loooved it. was such a surprise, i wasn't expecting this to be such a banger of an album.
everyone i know rated this as one star. i don't understand the hate though; i found this album quite good.
it was not perfect by any means as there were many parts which i was like "ehh?" but i found it enjoyable to listen to. most likely wouldn't pick it up again.
very pleasant! i warmed up to it a lot after a couple listens, but even before i liked it from the very start.
okay, here's the thing. I love electronic music, but this doesn't have enough substance. it feels like background music to a game, reminding me of EVE Online, but it's not powerful enough to keep my brain entertained on its own.
it was hard not to love this for me. i found it's experimental in a familiar way so it ends up with a very unique sound. elements which struck me as "oh, interesting" are ones that grow on you quickly as he blends the familiar with the new very well.
there were bits i disliked, such as the crying in The Kids, but they all make sense thematically so i cannot fault them. in general i really liked this album and it was a big surprise it grew on me so much as when i first listened, i didn't expect such a result
absolutely love Planet Claire. the rest of the songs are also nice but I felt a bit disappointed after how good the first song was.
the album almost feels like I'm listening to a show? not sure how else to describe it. was torm between 4 and 5 stars but the rest of the songs grew on me after repeated listening
Hate the first song, the rest of the album is okay
some iconic songs, it was a nice listen
wasn't fully convinced by this album but i liked it enough for four stars. some songs were really nice. i'm sure if i listened to the lyrics more i'd enjoy it more too
i can imagine that breakcore originated from this genre. it sounds like a slower, calmer version of breakcore. i love it, but it feels like it's missing an element in some songs. after reading other reviews i could see my opinion was somewhat shared too.
i really like this album. some songs are absolutely iconic, some are a bit mid. however, i can't give this album a five star rating knowing that "DAMN." exists as that album is the pinnacle of Lamar's work.
looove this. such good instrument use. length is perfect. it felt like i was listening to a concert, the ending was amazing.
oh goodness. first song had me excited which quickly faded as i was met with repetitvness for the next hour of listening. it was a struggle to finish the album, i don't recommend it.
i really enjoyed this album throughout. would definitely listen again. this album barely scrapes a 5 in my opinion as i enjoyed it more than all other albums which i would rate as 4.
i vibe with some of the songs a lot, but i don't enjoy the general feeling of the album.
simply lovely. i love this style of music.
the album sounds like it was revolutionary at the time, and it has some lovely songs, but the whole album sounds so similar throughout i couldn't tell when songs ended and started. the lead singer's voice was very monotone throughout the album too.
i don't appreciate jazz the way i should but even i found this enjoyable as background music.
my first ever time listening to Rush, found it quite interesting and actually liked it.
surprisingly very pleasant
what the fuck is this shit? only the last song was decent and the only thing that saved this shitshow of an album from a one star review.
yeah, this is swag. i like the vibes in all the songs. not something i would choose to listen to again though so only four stars.
one note is that the music and lyrics feel disconnected, it sounds as if the lyrics are sitting on top of the music rather than combined. maybe it's a result of the remaster?
