Favourite Song: Youthful Expression
Fun, funky hip hop. New to the genre but made me excited to hear more like it.
Favourite Song: So Fresh, So Clean
Loved the funk and that it had something to say. Like the more melodic style and catchy songs.
Favourite Song: Worry, Worry
Not usually a fan of live albums, but this one is really fun and the audience are so enthused. A new sort of my music for me, and I would listen again given the right mood.
Favourite Song: The Gnome
Blended into the background a lot which didn't quite grab me much. However, the more instrumental songs were interesting.
Favourite Song: Mardy Bum (and I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor as a default)
My first 5/5 and admittedly, comes from a place of nostalgia. Fun, energetic and loud, this album embodies Indies rock and every song is a hit.
Favourite Song: Be Anything But Darling Be Mine
I actually tried to have this as some calm background music while I read, but it kept catching my attention and I don't think I got through more than 2 pages. A really wonderful, heavenly voice.
Favourite Song: Old Man
The orchestral moments seem to contrast the more folky. While nothing overly captured me, I did enjoy the blend of genres.
Unfortunately, the album was not available on Spotify which did slightly alter the listening experience as I had to use YouTube. I don't imagine the original release had a McDonald's ad midway through.
Favourite Song: Scooby Snacks
Didn't really feel like it was doing anything. I do absolutely love Scooby Snacks as a song, but I struggled to keep my attention with the rest.
Favourite Song: Terrible Love
I knew Terrible Love already and had always liked it. The other songs can feel quite samey. An enjoyable album, but could be easily skipped if you weren't in the mood.
Favourite Song: Soon Forgotten
This is the kind of music that you know is amazing live or hearing in a bar. I think that is a lot of the energy, as without it, it can feel a little backgroundy.
3/5
Favourite Song:
I've never quite clicked with Springsteen, and I did have to listen to it twice as well, as my speaker automatically shuffled the first time. I debated between a 2 and a 3 for this, as it's fun, but feels very repetitive. But there's a cinematic edge to the album that I do enjoy so that's pushed it up.
Favourite Song: Too Far Gone
Favourite Song: Don't Stop Til You Get Enough
When you know what's to come, it's hard not to compare. This is an alright album, but the bad songs are bad and the good ones aren't quite good enough to make up for it.
Favourite Song: Appetite
An unexpectedly enjoyable album. With great lyrics and a great 80s synth sound, I was drawn in to a few songs.
Favourite Song: Bohemian Rhapsody
The best songs are absolutely some of the all-time greats. The worst songs are therefore very noticeable and do drag the album down at times.
Favourite Song: Man On The Moon
Not an album I was very familiar with, but I ended up absolutely loving it.
Favourite Song: Lodi
Favourite Song: Lions
A simple and solid album. Feels very samey and repetitive at time, but as a cool vibe to it that blends well.
Favourite Song: Introduction
The opening was absolutely beautiful but very different to the rest of the sound. A very chilled and thoughtful album, if you're feeling up for it.
Honestly, not my vibe to begin with but a little dull.
Favourite Song: In Your Eyes
This felt like a film score. A really lovely, solid album, with enough going for it that it's quite enjoyable.
Favourite Song: Cold World
Not my usual type of music, but the album feels very cinematic at time which is always appealing to me.
Favourite Song: Stan
Yes I'm biased. I admitted that early. I listened to this album a lot as a white girl teen who wanted to be cool but angsty. Despite the poor intention behind listening to it, it was completely different to the other music I was listening to and I loved it.
I have had a lot of hip hop albums early into my 1001 albums, a genre I don't know too well, but this album will always be at the top.
Favourite Song: Take It Easy
A light, simple album which is enjoyable but don't feel like it's doing anything special.
Favourite Song: Duet
Hard to pick a favourite song within Jazz, as usually the overall album sound can feel samey. An enjoyable, hot jazz album with a lovely energy that does end on a mellow tone.
Favourite Song: Little Triggers
It's alright. Honestly, it's fun and you can tell it would have meant a lot at the time of release, but for now it feels a little dated and bland.
Favourite Song: You've Got a Friend
A serene, relaxing album that I really enjoyed.
Favourite Song: Maggot Song
I loved the opening, which made me really excited for the rest but it did seem to fade from my attention as it went through.
Favourite Song: Talkin' Bout a Revolution
This was a hard one. Absolutely love the first half the album, but I faded out during the second half. I originally rated it a 4 just due to the good songs, but I have to rate the entire album.
Favourite Song: Send My Love
As individual songs, they are great. As a full album, it's quite boring and repetitive.
Favourite Song: Ma and Pa
Favourite Song: Hey You (also The Trial)
Well, this was very unexpected and great. The theatre of it all was really enjoyable, building together with each song. This is one of those albums that I almost want to vote a 5, but with so many songs, it's inevitable to have a few that lack and bring it down a little.
Favourite Song: Seven Nation Army
The album becomes a bit boring in the middle, but the start and end are great.
Favourite Song: That's All I Ask
My God this was so dull. I was so excited for my first Bowie album on this list and it sucked. Very underwhelming. It had a few moments where I would think it was picking it up, but they were too short-lived to raise the score.
