Popular Reviews

In A Silent Way by Miles Davis

...I somehow thought this would be boring. Amazing!!! I feel like I'm listening to Pink Floyd for the first time again. That trumpet is godly. I get why people like Jazz now. SO MUCH SOUL IN THIS. Had me grinning like a maniac.

The 2017 mix of With a Little Help From My Friends is so good? Felt like I was in the studio with them. On the other hand, Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds doesn't hit as hard as it used to. GETTING SO MUCH BETTER ALL THE TIME :) The sounds on Being for the Benefit of Mr Kite are so whimsical!

Live! by Fela Kuti
Feb 28 2024

Starts off great! I love Fela's voice and confidence. The instrumentals are crisp and make me feel like I'm in an underwater cave? Black man's cry is flawless but Ye Ye De Smell drags at some parts Egde Mi O is great! Beautiful and upbeat. Loved this album overall.

The Suburbs by Arcade Fire
Feb 29 2024

Beautiful, existentially heavy tracks. I wish there were more variations in sound, but the atmosphere they create on this album is flawless.

Songs From The Big Chair by Tears For Fears
Mar 01 2024

Deeply affecting lyrics set to timeless melodies. A masterpiece, or maybe it just hits all the right notes in my brain.

Head Hunters by Herbie Hancock
Mar 02 2024

First track - It's very pleasant to listen to, perhaps in the background, but nothing really stands out. Second track - the scat singing or flute, or whatever that is in the beginning, is amazing. The way this track progresses puts a smile on my face. Third track - and we're back to the merely-pleasant background music. I love the way it speeds up and become almost chaotic a minute or two in, though. It screeches like a beast! Fourth track - Doesn't live up to it's name XD. Some devastating keyboard sounds but nothing more to it than that. Overall - I see the appeal, but it's not my thing.

Darklands by The Jesus And Mary Chain
Mar 03 2024

TDS-lite, not in sound but in subject matter. In short, very depressing. Not much stands out and it's very samey. Not a fave of mine, but I see the appeal.

Goodbye And Hello by Tim Buckley
Mar 04 2024

Probably very impressive for its time. Reminds me of early Pink Floyd, but leaves much to be desired.

Synchronicity by The Police
Mar 05 2024

Banger after banger, with clever, subversive, and stirring rock songs throughout—making it a very enjoyable listen.

Opus Dei by Laibach
Mar 06 2024

Wow. I really enjoyed this, but no more for now haha. It's a dizzying, surprisingly catchy parody of Nazi Germany I think? Loved it.

Either Or by Elliott Smith
Mar 07 2024

I listened to this about two years ago and liked some songs, but was mostly bored 😕 Going to give it another try... Reading the lyrics while listening definitely improves the experience. Just pure poetry... Gets a bit repetitive but solid overall.

Walking Wounded by Everything But The Girl
Mar 08 2024

Surprisingly abrasive at parts. Some really cool sounds, especially on the title track, but quite uneven. The first two songs really bored me. I really liked 'The heart remains a child', though.

Murmur by R.E.M.
Mar 10 2024

Very pleasant listen. Varied melodies, but some repetitive choruses. I understand that these guys invented a new sound which I happen to like a lot. The nonsense poetic lyrics remind me of Nirvana, which is definitely a positive. Not perfect, can get a bit tiresome, but still very solid.

Garbage by Garbage
Mar 11 2024

Definitely not garbage :) Excellent riffs, mesmerizing soundscapes, and I love Shirley's voice. Abrasive yet catchy. Very fun album that I can't find any flaws in.

Songs For Swingin' Lovers! by Frank Sinatra
Mar 12 2024

Pleasantly surprised by this. Sinatra really knew how to set a mood! The instrumentals sound dated but charming. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of idyllic lovers. And Sinatra's voice? Simply captivating, exuding undeniable personality.

The Specials by The Specials
Mar 13 2024

So... this is Ska. Very fun but about half of the songs either go on for too long or have some obnoxious gimmick. I really liked Do the Dog, Concrete Jungle, and Stupid Marriage though. Worth hearing once, but I'd rather listen to something else most of the time.

Mar 14 2024

What an amazing album!! Lovely tropical mood (with a sinister edge), totally immersive and quite mind-blowing at parts. Just deducting a star because it drags at some parts.

Penance Soiree by The Icarus Line
Mar 15 2024

14-year-old me would have loved this. On track 2... This sucks :) I'm all about noise and rock 'n' roll, but this isn't hitting the mark - it's just kinda boring! Haven't they ever heard of dynamic range? The lyrics are so cliche and faux-edgy! I hate his voice! Ahh!

Liquid Swords by GZA
Mar 16 2024

How does Gza do it? Extremely satisfying album with deep, metaphysical lyrics and dope beats. Hip hop at its finest.

Green Onions by Booker T. & The MG's
Mar 17 2024

Very pleasant instrumentals! Tons of personality and never gets boring. I love the drums when they appear. Would benefit from vocals/more complex arrangements, but what's there is great already.

Mar 18 2024

I love the beats on this one, and the hooks are catchy af! The album has a cinematic quality to it that I really like. 50's rapping is passable... the Eminem features both highlight 50's flaws and elevate the album. 50 delivers some very interesting, vivid violent imagery on his bars though! This album could've been a 5 if Blood Hound. Back Down, and Poor Little Rich were cut out - it's just such a fun listen.

Aftermath by The Rolling Stones
Mar 19 2024

I listened to the UK version of this (and then Paint It Black ofc). The vocals are really dominant. These songs are quite boring... I like their energy though :) Probably very impressive for its time, but I'm just bored listening to it now. Paint It Black is amazing though...
