1001 Albums Summary

I had never listened to reggae before, and so wasn’t really sure what to expect. This album was pure groove: the lyrics and Bob Marley’s voice of course added to the effect, but what struck me most was the instrumentation. The album was sonically coherent, but you get these flairs in each song that change the vibe: is it more bluesy, more rock? Very engaging, and a great introduction to a new genre!

It feels strange to describe an album as languorous AND deeply engaging, but here we are. Sonically cohesive, every song is obviously identifiable as fitting the Coldplay mold with the keening/crooning of Chris Martin at the fore. But variations in instrumentation, tone and energy ensured that it never felt like songs were running together or becoming indistinct. Green Eyes was my favorite, the acoustic guitar introductory riff hasd me playing it on repeat.

Meditation on love lost, love spurned, love of community PLUS an absolute collection of dance jams? I will be relistening over and over again.

The words that’s came to mind: melodramatic, soaring, 80s. Good, but could have used at least one curveball.

What was that. This one star is actually zero stars.

The high points are high, but man I didn’t realize the amount of filler on this album. But I can’t go lower than a four, despite Rocky Raccoon and Bungalow Bill tempting me.

Experimental, ethereal, all while remaining an absolute delightful listen. Loved it.

Not my typical genre, but blood-pumping, head-nodding, dare I say toe-tapping?

Some of the lyrics are difficult in the full context of Brittany’s life. But you can’t deny the whole package.
