It's really funny to me that this is the first one...
This was my favourite album ever made for most of my life, and is still easily top 3.
Favourites:
1. Lover, You Should've Come Over
2. Mojo Pinn
3. Last Goodbye
4. Forget Her
5. Hallelujah
My Rating: 100/100
Favourite Track: The First One but it didn't super stand out to me
Quickly became clear that this album is not for me- I don't particularly enjoy this sort of rock album with not much personality- first song felt sort of talking heads-esque which interests me (even if I don't like talking heads as much as I feel like I should considering how quirky they are), but it doesn'tseem to continue. That said, it's not bad by any means
Probably around a 70/100 but I'll round down to 3 stars
I've heard the beastie boy's first album and thought it was impressively mediocre- while each of the members are outspoken activists nowadays, 'Licensed to Ill' was just a bunch of clearly-talented edgy white kids spewing misogynistic vitriol
That said, this album is leagues better- a massive improvement on all fronts. I genuinely think this is fantastic, and might be one of my favourite hip-hop albums of the 80s. Is it entirely devoid of the misogyny of the first album? Certainly not- though it's vastly vastly more muted, and they wouldn't really move towards making amends for another half a decade.
However I do think that especially with the context of growing up, apologising (famously) and decades of activism since, this album stands Very well on its own.

- this is not what i expected
- not sure what exactly I thought it would be but not upbeat groovy pop
- After Listening:
Yeah I liked it, didn't super jump out to me but it was a pleasant surprise. Haven't disliked any album so far even remotely, and I think I like this more than The Pretenders album
- Ooh I quite like this, it's cute
- It all seems quite pleasant
- Doesn't blow me away or anything though, just consistently nice
- Not sure what's going on in 'Early in the Morning' but I sort of like it
- I don't know what genre this is
- 'The Moonbeam song' feels like a departure, much smoother sounding
- Didn't care particularly for 'Down'
- 'Without you' is the most popular song and I can see why. This song is fantastic, reminds me of some of my all time favourite artists
- why is he doing that (put de lime in de coconut???)
- well it's not bad per se but????
- I'll never leave without you is also really good
Favs: Without You, I'll Never Leave Without You, The Moonbeam Song
Umm overall: it's fine, it's fun, and Without You is easily the best new song I've found because of this, but there are a lot of not-particularly-interesting songs on here too, and aside from the one song I doubt I'll ever listen to this again
3 stars
Each album from this ranked so far
1. Jeff Buckley
2. Beastie Boys
4. Pretenders
5. Elvis Costello (I changed my mind)
sorry satria but don't even try to tell me this is better grunge music than Nirvana...
I'm not the biggest fan of the genre but bands like Nirvana and Alice in Chains impress me, and this isn't bad by any stretch of the imagination, but y'know, it's not my thing...
Now that being said it's probably my favourite of the 3 stars I've given out but I can't justify putting it on the same level as the beastie boys album
Very mystical sounding and pretty cool...
Kind of a bizarre mix of mystical/dramatic with some pretty silly/nonsensical lyrics.
All in all I really liked it but it did get a bit old after a while, and the opening song was my favourite perhaps for that reason
what the fuck lmao

I've heard this before... Bowie's definitely made much better albums but it's still fantastic
