Good album overall, can't go wrong with the classics. Jazz is not my cup of tea, but that's not to say that this is a bad album per se. From one point on all songs just merged into one mashed mess in my mind, something that happens often when I listen to many new songs all at once. Overall a 3.4/5 because, even though I don't really listen to jazz, this album is truly a classic and there is no legitimate reason for me to rate it any lower.
Absolutely mesmerised, from start to finish. Some of this album's songs instantly made their way into my favourites playlist. Hadn't really given a chance to Talking Heads just yet, and I don't even know why. I regret not having listened to their music apart from Psycho Killer up until this point. In my head (pun intended), Talking Heads were just a one-hit wonder band. I didn't know how wrong I was until today. Bonus points because I like buildings AND food. 4.6/5, insane album.
What a familiar sound, even though I had not really listened to a lot of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young so far. Has this 70s feel (obviously) which I absolutely adore. The vocals in some songs were a highlight for me - layered vocals are a soft spot of mine. Some songs reminded me of super early Queen a bit, Queen I and Queen II, two of my favourite albums of all time. Others gave Simon and Garfunkel vibes, while some others had this distinctive Beatles sound. Overall, I knew since the very first song that this album was going to be a solid 5/5. Marvellous.
When I saw that today's album was "The Number Of The Beast", I whispered under my breath "hell yeah". I'm a long-time metalhead and opted to listen to this album in vinyl today, as I already own an analog copy of it. Honestly I have no words; this was one of the first albums that I listened to in its entirety when I was first exploring the metal genre, therefore it brings back so many amazing memories. Instant 5/5, nothing more to say.
Only had a few highlights for me, the other songs kinda seemed unremarkable. But on the other hand I don’t really listen to this kind of music so I’m definitely not the authority here. 2.3/5 I guess because, while it is definitely not my style, it is not terrible whatsoever.
Elton John's music never really stood out to me. Don't get me wrong, I understand how big of a name he is and his influence, but his music never really... clicked. This album is no exception unfortunately; the only songs that stood out to me were Tiny Dancer and Indian Sunset (I know many people hate Indian Sunset but for some reason I loved its musical structure). I cannot really rate it anything more than 3/5, good album I guess but not interesting enough for me to remember.
Quite a great album actually, I didn't expect to like it so much. Having only been familiar with the title track so far, I had never listened to the whole album, but it was definitely worth it. 4.2/5, enjoyable experience all over, will definitely listen again. I would have never listened to the entire thing by myself, so I see this as an absolute win.
This album features many classics, some of which practically everyone knows. Livin' On A Prayer is the first song that comes to mind when thinking about Bon Jovi, and for a good reason. Powerful synths dominate throughout, which is definitely an acquired taste for a metalhead like me. Overall the entire album was a great listen, the first half being a solid 5/5 and the second being a great 4/5. Therefore, 4.5/5 for this landmark of an album.
Hunky Dory! What can I say about this album except "chilling"? Bowie's music sends chills down my spine, and this masterpiece of an album is no exception. I opted to listen to it in vinyl, a choice which added to the already existing goosebumps. From "Life On Mars" and "Changes" to "Oh! You Pretty Things" and "Queen Bitch", every single song of this album is perfect. Despite its perfection however, I do not consider it to be Bowie's best work, something which speaks volumes about his musicianship. Nevertheless, it would be an insult to Bowie to rank this anything lower than 5/5. Without any shred of doubt, 5/5, no questions asked.
Hm, I feel like I am missing some sociopolitical context here. I visited the Wikipedia page for this album and read through the entire thing but I feel like I am still missing something in order to enjoy this album as much as possible. I think that I had the watered-down listening experience due to lack of historical context. The only songs that stood out for me were "Family Affair" and "Thank You For Talkin' To Me, Africa". Other than that, great sound but really not my cup of tea. 3.1/5, kinda meh.
Didn’t do much for me really. I found this album unremarkable in every way, even though I feel like I might like it better after a few more listening sessions. Pretty forgettable if I am being honest. 2.3/5, did not find a single highlight that I might remember.
Didn't expect to like some of these songs as much as I did. This is not to say, however, that I enjoyed the entirety of this album. "When Will They Shoot?" was actually a pleasant surprise; this song brought me goosebumps. The rest of this album seemed kind of... the same thing over and over? I don't know. On the other hand I understand that as a white European I cannot possibly relate to the experiences and struggles of black people in the US. Appreciated the anti-racism, but was ultimately left disappointed by the misogyny and general language used throughout. I think this is a 2.4/5 for me, however I understand that my rating is by no means universal.
It’s always a good day when you listen to the entirety of a Bruce Springsteen album. And this one is no exception. I loved this album; while I was listening to it, I felt as if I already knew the songs. Every song has a familiar sound, and half of them ended up in my Favourites playlist. 4.3/5, amazing work once again by The Boss.
Cool album overall, enjoyed the listen, especially “The Cisco Kid”. I soon realised, however, that it had kind of faded in the background. “The World is a Ghetto” is an enjoyable album, albeit just a little forgettable for me. Maybe a few more listening sessions will change my mind, but for now I think it’s mid-tier. 2.8/5, not bad but by no means remarkable.
Utterly forgettable at best, unlistenable and pretty confusing to be honest. I still feel like I do not understand this album at all - I don’t know what Gorillaz were trying to achieve with this. Every song feels like it belongs to a different genre and/or album (and I’m not saying this as a compliment). First album I was not able to finish listening to, and first one star album for me so far, 1.3/5 at best.
I feel like I don’t really get this album. Aretha Franklin is undoubtedly a top vocalist, her talent is impressive and non-negociable. The songs, however, seem bland at best. Apart from Respect, of course. But then again I am not really a fan of soul, so who am I to judge? 2.4/5 just because of Aretha’s vocals.
Well, this one was not really for me... I think. I tried to like it, I really did – hell, this is the album that gave us Fight For Your Right, how could I not like it? Unfortunately, the only songs I see myself ever listening to again (apart from Fight For Your Right, obviously) are Rhymin & Stealin (found it to be a great opener track) and Slow Ride (mainly because it samples Low Rider, one of my all-time favourite songs and apparently a staple in songwriting with samples). Other than that, I found it to be too noisy, even though I am anything but a person that would complain about something being "too noisy", as proven by the fact that I have a soft spot for industrial metal and power noise (don't ask me why I like the latter, I honestly have no idea. But I do). 2.2/5, I get what they were going for but it fell flat for me. Bonus points for the songs I mentioned.
Sweet, melancholic listen. This is definitely an album that will turn a moody day into an even more moody day. The songs I can say spoke to me the most are Everything Means Nothing To Me and Stupidity Tries. Other than that, I understand what Elliott Smith was going for, but I can't say I was surprised or blown away. This album was also a bit too soft for me, so I was definitely kinda bored throughout. The whole experience was about what I expected it to be, and I have to rate it about 3.3/5, as it was not bad by any means, just not really my cup of tea.
