Title track A++++++. Super Stupid A+ Rest is fine, not my style.
It was always going to be a 5/5 from me.
I never really listened to Neil Young before. And I am definitely not going to start. I liked the final track, Words, the most. A handful of songs I like the instrumentals, but I'm so turned off by everything else across all the songs - Neil's voice, the lyrics, etc. Definitely not my style and I'm not really looking forward to listening to more music by him in this list.
I thoroughly.enjoyed this album start to finish. It's going in the rotation for sure
I liked this album way more than I thought I would. I don't usually listen to Pharrell and I'm not as familiar with the other band members, but I liked multiple songs from this album. I do think the first of the album is stronger than the second half, but I didn't hate the second half. Sorry not sorry 'Jump' is an absolute banger. Going to look up their other albums and listen to more by this band for sure.
This is such a fantastic album. What a great modern indie album to include; one that I am going to listen to again and again.
I'm most familiar with 'Yellow' & 'Shiver' from this album, and I do like those songs. I overall have no real strong opinion on Coldplay - there are some songs of theirs I like and some I don't care for. But my overall impression of this album was just....bland. Very beige. And thus, relatively boring. I don't see myself coming back to this album anytime soon, except for the 2 songs I already knew and knew I liked, and also the final track 'Everything's Not Lost', which I had never heard before but I did enjoy.
This is like elevator music if elevator music was groovier.
I wanted to like this album but I just don't. The only song I can name by Costello before listening to this is 'Pump It Up' (s/o rockband), and I like that song better than any of the songs on this album. I recognized Oliver's Army once I heard it (thought I didn't recall THAT one line), but I'm not sure I'd say it's a song I care for that much. It's one of the better songs on this album though so take that what you will. There were some of the songs I liked, but costellos voice (or should I say how he sings) grates on me a little in many of the songs. Idk how to describe it but to me it sounds less like he's being "whiny", which I saw in other reviews, and more like he's singing "goofy". I'm not sure what I mean by that but it's like he sings in a way that I expect what he's singing to be a parody. And it's not. I'm stuck between rating 2 or 3, and I think I'll go with 3 but it's closer to a 2 than a 4.
Excellent album! Of course I had known 'Seven Nation Army's previously, but not much else by White Stripes. I didn't even realize they were a duo! I liked the first song (of course) then I felt like the album dipped a little over the next few songs, and I resigned myself to thinking the first song was going to blow everything else out of the water. Not true, I actually enjoyed the album more the longer it went, and I felt it grew in strength after that dip for sure. And although Jack has a very distinct voice (which I enjoy), I have to say I really enjoyed Meg's voice for the couple of songs that she sang. I would definitely listen to this one again.
I really appreciate how many instrumental tracks this list gives us. This album was just fine. I think I was expecting to dislike it more than I did based on reviews. This album feels so very 90s to me, which shouldn't be surprising, but I really like that aspect of listening to this album. There are some songs I really like and others that I do not care for, and overall I could see myself putting on this album again for background music at work and just skipping the songs I feel most meh about.
I am such a sucker for this genre. Listening to this album, I NEVER would've guessed this came out in the 70s. Really awesome knowing music that sounds like this was being made back then. Overall, really really like this album.
I saw another review that said all music in 2008-2012 sounded just like this and boy were they right. Certain songs really tickled that nostalgia part of my brain, I cannot lie. I remember being in high school and having several friends love Arcade Fire at the time, and I remember looking them up and listening to a few songs then coming away with a very "meh" impression. I can genuinely say I enjoyed this album more than I thought I would based on my initial impression several years ago (and there are songs by Arcade Fire not on this album that I enjoy now as an adult that I didn't care for as a teen). That said, I didn't feel this album was a home run - it really falls off for me after the beginning even if I do find myself tapping and nodding my head along even after the first few songs. I think overall this album is pretty average for me - I could see myself being happy listening to this in the background while I clean or do chores, but it isn't something I'd sit down to dedicate time to in the future.
I just think grunge is not my genre. I liked the beginning of songs but then the actual song would start. I did like many of the solos. And that's about it. I liked those 2 things, so 2/5.
What a very personal album. Too bad it was so boring. Okay, that was mean. The lyrics did make me laugh a lot. I feel a bit bad for laughing at this man's pain and him working thru his divorce but also...some of those lines were just funny, and I'm not sorry about that. I like Marvin Gayes voice. I do not like his music style.
I won't lie, a lot of big band songs sound "samey" to me even when I do like them. And I do like all of them on this album despite their "sameyness". But man does this album make me want to play Fallout. 4/5.
This album felt like it went on a long time but I really dug the music and really dug ray Charles. I also really enjoyed reading about the history of this album, which I think made me appreciate it more. I don't think I would listen to this album cover to cover again but I'd be happy listening to a small sample from this album for sure. And man, does this one make me want to play Fallout as well.

I really enjoyed this album more than I thought I would (common thread in some of my reviews). Sades voice was amazing. The sax solos and intros were smoooooth. The instrumentals were on point. Just really good album all the way through for me. Main reason I knocked a star off is all of the songs felt long to me. Like just droning on the last 30-45 seconds or so. But still, excellent album overall!
I enjoyed this album overall. It does sound very "beach boys" to me though, which is hard for me to describe except you know the beach boys when you hear the beach boys. I knew "Wouldn't it be nice" from the album before listening to it but nothing else from this album. I was pleasantly surprised by how many songs I did like even though they did tend to bleed together. Overall I'd listen to this album again, but probably not anytime soon.
I really didn't like this album. All of the songs either sound like 1) budget versions of songs that other soft rock bands have done, or 2) waaaaaaaay too country for me. And it wasn't even that country - I think Stephen stills adds this almost twang to his voice when singing certain songs and I was NOT about it. This 1+ hour album was definitely a struggle to get through. Adding 1 star for the few songs I did enjoy, even if it was mostly for the instrumentals.
I wanted to like this album more than I did. It was good, don't get me wrong, but it more often than not made me want to listen to other versions of many of the covers that Otis sang. Good but didn't stick out in my mind as great. At least it was bite sized compared to the last 2 albums.
It was fine, I guess? This sounded and felt like a teenage boy just going through an angst phase. But a boring angst phase. And oh my gosh do I hate the singing. Horrendous IMHO. By still...it was whatever. Not as awful as I thought it would be after reading a couple reviews but it wasn't what I would call 'good' nor would I recommend it to anyone.
What a fun album! I really enjoy listening to live albums, and enjoyed this live album as well. Johnny Cash is solid - all of his songs sound very similar to me (at least all the Johnny Cash songs I've ever heard) but it worked for this album and these live shows at Folsom. Very cool to read about the history of this album and it's reception - I think I would throw this on for a Fallout NV playthru for sure.
I really, really, REALLY enjoy this album. There are 1 or 2 songs I don't love or don't love parts of, but the rest of the album is an absolute BOP. I don't care if this sounds like some alt shit from the 80s. I LOVE alt shit from the 80s: 5/5.
I don't know what to say about this album. I tried to keep an open mind, knowing this is from a genre a) I don't really listen to and b) isn't featured as often on this list (judging from other reviews). But like...I guess this was fine? I mean I don't think I liked it much at all, and it's really hard for me to imagine the person that does like something like this, so... good for them I guess? 3/5 because I'm hip.
It's a pretty boring, easy-listening album. 3/5. Bland but easy to listen to so...yep. as average as average gets to me.
This reminded me a lot of Neil Young's Harvest which was assigned on this list previously. But I like this way more than that album. Maybe it's something about the style of music or Dylan's voice that I find more tolerable than Harvest. But man, just like that album, this album is a bummer. Although this is the type of bummer album I see myself listening to again...maybe when I'm in the mood to look a little contemplative and a little pained while staring out of a window. Yeah, that's it. This is an album to listen to when I'm in a MOOD. Writing this review helped me talk myself into giving this a 4/5 instead of a 3/5.
I can honestly say I liked this album more than their third album in their "golden trifecta" of albums, although that seems to be against the norm compared to the other reviews I read of this album on here. But who knows, I like Sam's Town more than Hot Fuss (of The Killers obviously) so maybe I'm just broken. That said I still don't get why arcade fire are as popular as they are. Although I enjoyed more songs off of this album and found a few stand outs very interesting + enjoyable to listen to, overall I still find arcade fire's sound very bland. Just a personal opinion. 4/5 for this album in particular. Maybe I'll like the next arcade fire more, as I'm assuming their first "golden" album made this list as well.
I don't like country in general, but I do think this is a very solid country album. When I think of what country "should" sound like it's something like this. Some really good tracks, just not my genre. 4/5 cuz this is going in my Fallout NV rotation, too.
