Hounds Of Love by Kate Bush
Oct 18 2024

I already loved this album 1. Running Synth sounds on running up that hill are perfect. Drums don’t switch up at all but they’re great 2. Hounds of love Love the pulsing staccato string sound throughout. Same kinda big drums. No hihats 3. The big sky Lead guitar tone is great. Growling. Clappy sounding perc in 16th notes 4. Mother stands for comfort Big crash drum sounds with mellow vibes. Vocals cut through nicely. Haunting synth leads. Nice rhythmic vocal cadence 5. Cloudbusting. No drums at beginning. Nice string melody. Vocal melodies stacking. Good vocal production. Good concept. Marching like drums. Yay-yo vocals at the end are good and catchy 6. Dream of sheep. I like her voice on these haunting piano ballads. Very verby pianos. Guitar towards the end is subtle touch that adds dynamic. Train sound interesting 7. Under ice Haunting. No drums. Main sound sounds like pitched down string sample. Playing with resonance or flutey sound 8. Waking the witch The wake up samples are greats. Surprising beat drop and chaotic sound. Don’t live the deep voices. Not as pleasant as other stuff. Bells are distracting to me too. Probably all purposeful for the witch song though. Synth work is dope. Guilty crowd chant is good 9. Watching you watching me Excellent intro drum beat. Lots of resonant and FM-ish sounds on this album. Reverse vocal towards the end is amazing. Sounds incredible. Nice strings come in too 10. Jig of life Great fiddle intro. Almost eastern but sounds mostly Irish. Sounds way ahead of its time. Sounds like a nelly furtado song from 2000’s at some points. Marches the concept of the song well. Amazing switchup towards the end after quick break 11. Hello earth Love the space intro. Kate and haunting pianos again. Brings out sidfeeent vulnerability in her voice. Break with pitched down vocals was amazing. Great vocal production. Harmonies stacks and all. Haunting harmonies with drone string synth note at the end 12. Morning fog Ending the album on a brighter note with the production. Bass tone is nice. Jerky drum machine drums. Abrupt ending. Love this album even more than last time I listened. 8/10. Sound design was immaculate. Her vibe is very unique and quirky and free

Live At The Star Club, Hamburg by Jerry Lee Lewis
Oct 20 2024

Because I’m removed from the time and the immediate impact. At first it sounds like generic 60’s rock n roll. Even though I know there were groundbreaking things about his approach. Very piano centric. I wish there was more high energy modern popular music where piano was more central. Good golly miss Molly. Sounds just fine to me because of the little Richard version I’m used to hearing. This recording is recognized as a wild energetic performance but doesn’t sound wilder than little Richard’s original version?? Your cheating heart. Piano is dope. Maybe my favorite so far Long tall sally also sounds lacking compared to little Richard version. Even his growl and his whoo are eh. The sequencing of the album and the transitions from song to song are great. Keeps the energy right

The Doors by The Doors

Grooves. Vox continental organ. Rhodes bass. Guitar tones. Hooky melodies Album begins amazing. Tracks 1-3 are an excellent start Vocals really do feel like another instrument. Unique style and the lyrics don’t really even register as I hear them. I’m sure that would change as I listen through the album more Had never heard of a marxo phone before. Sounds cool “Backdoor man” groove reminds me a lot of “five to one” in the very beginning. Also very sampleavle “Light my fire” is also very sampleable. Organ solos galore

A Hard Day's Night by Beatles
Oct 23 2024

I’ve listened to the later albums so much that it’s always interesting to hear the earlier stuff. I don’t think I’ve closely listened to this album top to bottom before 1. A hard days night A classic 2. I should have known better. This song is a good example of the simplicity of their music at this time. The experimental stuff nowhere to be found 3. If I fell Beautiful melodies and harmonies Love the chord progression. Keeps you on your toes. 4. I’m happy just to dance with you intro guitar tone fire. The love songs of this Beatles era feel more boy band-ish. Mainly lyrically 5. And I love her Vocal production is great Guitar riff is so memorable Nylon (or whatever) guitar sound and melody is beautiful. Simple solo that lets you breathe for a second 6. Tell me why These harmonies and the style feel super duper 60’s. Less distinctively Beatles. But it’s a great song 7. Can’t buy me love Such a simple song but the conceptual approach is interesting and hooky. These songs are so short and seeet 8. Any time at all Gritty voice. Less than 2 minutes 9. I’ll cry instead 10. Things we said today I like the structure and melody more than the lyrics 11. When I get home This album does have a pretty distinct sound. I think hard days night when a bunch of these start (since that’s the song I know best from this record) 12. You can’t do that Nice guitar solo before bridge. A very good song but grabs me less than some of the others on the album. Again the lyrics are fine (you can’t do that is a great memorable line though) 13. I’ll be back Love how it starts The chord progression is beautiful. Very Beatles. Keeps you on your toes and you’re not sure where it’ll resolve and makes each part feel interesting even when you’ve heard it already Overall I love this album. It’s not as flawless as some of the later ones but of course not is this is the first album where they’re writing all the songs. Interesting that as time goes on their lyrics also get more absurd. Seems like they mostly didn’t take themselves too seriously lyrically even later. Feels like following what feels right is how they created

Exile In Guyville by Liz Phair
Oct 24 2024

Tracks 4,5,6 are a dope back to back to back. soap star Joe is one of my favorites so far Flower is super interesting and minimal. Light BGVs and rhythmic melody with rhythmic minimal guitar stabs Gunshy is dope too

Want Two by Rufus Wainwright
Oct 25 2024

1. Agnus Dei The beginning with the bow sound is very cool. I like this song. Long slow building journey 2. The one you love Nice lush vocal textures. I like this song ok This may be the kind of album that’s hard to digest in one day because it’s more singer songwriter 3. Peach trees “Is true love a trip to Chinatown?” Outstanding first line. Grabs you and syllables sound nice Beautiful strings. Unusual choice for this kind of song 4. The art teacher Very straightforward sentences in the storytelling. Tongue-in-cheek lines. Song feels serious and the lyrics don’t take themselves too seriously 5. Hometown waltz Accordion for the waltz 6. This love affair This is the more low key ballad part of the album I see. A few in a row “I don’t know why I’m watching all these white people dancing” 🤣 7. Gay messiah More not taking itself too seriously lyrically Obviously blasphemous Beautiful progression, melodies, and BGVs Ends even more blasphemous than it began. Beautiful composition minus the content. Even the “better pray for your sins” maybe my favorite hook on the album so far 8. Memphis skyline More poetic lyrically. Beautiful composition again. I could hear this being one of Sufjan’s inspirations 9. Waiting for a dream Cool phasey filtery effect on the vocals The rest of the songs haven’t had bass lines and drums like this song. But it still fits 10. Crumb by crumb 11. Old whore’s diet Beautiful strings The album is bookended by fuller production. More minimal production in the middle I enjoyed the middle parts the most. Lush thoughtful arrangements

Already loved this album 1. Introduction Love when live albums start with an introduction of the artist 2. I’ll go crazy Great beginning guitar riff James brown always feels like several genres at once 3. Try me 3/4 almost ballad. Groove in tact So short and sweet 4. Instrumental bridge 1 Love it. It’s like 10 seconds lol 5. Think Brass section going crazy These funk song structures really made hip hop possible 6. Instrumental bridge 2 Just a great quick turnaround 7. I don’t mind Love the bassline and bgv’s Tender voice James brown is underrated 8. Instrumental bridge 3 9. Lost someone The lone long song so far Love the progression and groove Love hearing fan interaction 10. Medley Albums feels much different later in the track list with longer songs 11. Night train Groove is absolutely incredible. Drums and organ crazy
