Popular Reviews

Born In The U.S.A. by Bruce Springsteen

It always frustrated me that folks lumped the title track in the same category as "God Bless The USA" and such, when it's actually an indictment. I grew up with this album, and even listening with older, wiser ears...I still find it great. The melodies and the songcraft still solid. I get that his voice and his style may not be for everyone, and the sound of it all is full-on 80s stadium rock This album gave voice to a certain disillusioned, working class, segment of the population. Unfortunately,I suspect it will be looked upon today as a segment that is not as important as others, and just needs to shut up. And that's misguided.

This is the album that some folks proclaimed they "stopped sounding like Radiohead and came into their own". While I feel they managed to make their best one at that time,I thought the Radiohead comparisons weren't entirely fair. They were also better song craftsmen. I think Thom York can be overrated.

Blue by Joni Mitchell

A beautiful album.

Music From Big Pink by The Band
Oct 23 2024

I always thought they did some fascinating stuff. I think, now that I'm older, I just don't appreciate their sound, which can seem a bit whiny to me. That said, I appreciate the material, especially The Weight and I Shall Be Released.

This was a joy to hear again Love this one.

Madman Across The Water by Elton John
Oct 28 2024

Beautiful orchestrations and I enjoy the eccentricity of it all. I may in the minority, but I prefer it to Yellow Brick Road.

Ten by Pearl Jam
Oct 29 2024

Know this one back to front. I love it, even if it's of a time

Scott 2 by Scott Walker
Nov 08 2024

I have kind a soft spot for Scott Walker AND he was bizarre as hell. This one's a bit moody mushy for me, but I get the appeal. Not one I reach for often, but I appreciate it.

In Utero by Nirvana
Nov 15 2024

I always leaned toward Pearl Jam and Screaming Trees, but I recognize the quality here.

Crosby, Stills & Nash by Crosby, Stills & Nash
Nov 19 2024

Never got in to it like everyone else, but I do appreciate the harmonies.
