Pretty alright. Having heard Songs in the Key of Life and Innervisions before I felt disappointed with this album. Not terrible by any stretch, of course superstition is incredible, but a lot of the deep cuts were quite underwhelming on first listen. Maybe Your Baby stuck out in particular as going on too long and getting annoying around the 4 minute mark. Way overstayed it's welcome.
2.5 stars
I really liked this one. I will have to give it a few more listens, but this is my first full Bowie project besides blackstar, and I must say I fully get the hype so far.
It was great. Haven’t listened to much funk before, had heard great things about this album, and it lived up to the hype. Unfortunately the last song has what sounds like a fart playing throughout most of the song? Still a very strong album though.
This album is alright. I think if I heard it without the context of violator I might have appreciated it more, but to me this just sounds like an inferior version of that album. It's not terrible, some good tunes on here, but I'll have to listen to both this and Violator more to fully pick out the differences between these two albums. As it stands, this album sits at around a 3 outta 5 for me.
I didn't like this as much as I thought it would, especially considering I've heard it before. I listened to it a few times, and I like a good chunk of the songs, especially the closer, but stuff like the vocal effects on the opener and really Thom Yorke's voice not really fitting well on the song he appears in hold this one back for me.
I had heard this one before. That may play into this being the first 5 star album, but of the albums I've listened to, this is the first one that feels on a whole other level. It didn't really have any moments that stuck out as bad to me, and overall it's really consistently great. Songs like Midnight Rambler and Gimme Shelter and truly fantastic songs for the ages
This was a very nice folk/singer-somgwriter album. Unfortunately I only had time to listen to it once, but I will be coming back to it.
Decent Hardcore Punk album. I gained a little more appreciation for where acts like Black Flag come from, but the music here is far less memorable or distinctive, perhaps because it was so influential? Either way, didn't have a ton of time to sit with this one, but I could see myself coming back to it.
Decent house album. I wasn’t crazy about the whole thing, and it had some weird bits, but I could see it growing on me.
Alright new wave album. A lot of mid on here.
Truly detestable. Annoying synth patterns permeate at least half the songs here, ruining them. The vocalist is obnoxious on every song, the guitars sound thin, and the choruses tend to be more irritating than catchy. The second half is at least a step up from the first half, with the most tolerable songs being New Religion and Save a Prayer, but they're not enough to save this from a one star. I found this so bad that I may go back and bump Dexys Midnight Runners up a star because in comparison that was incredible
Standard 60s singer-songwriter. Pretty dated, but not awful
Incredible beats and production for an '80s hip hop album. The lyricism and flow is not incredible, and the lyrics are sort of inane and sexist, but the energy and personality that they're delivered with makes them enjoyable nonetheless.
Decent 1960s mod album, good singles but other than that I wasn't hooked. I'll try again in the future
I think I really need more than one day to digest most of the albums. I did like it on the first few listens. Strong first half
I do not care for the mixing on this album at all. The suburbs and neon bible are far stronger, but this isn't a terrible album by any means
Solid. One great song, some mid, but I wasn't expecting that much from the closer and honestly it was pretty good.
