I liked the blues sound. Fable of the Brown Ape and The Lyre of Orpheus were my favorites. Nothing else stood out to me.
I enjoyed the singing, though the sound overall felt a bit repetitive to me. Favorites: Saint to a sinner, I'm living in two worlds
I loved almost everything from the cover art to the variety of sound and themes. My only complaint is that it feels almost too polished and there's not enough grit, but that's like saying my greatest weakness is being a perfectionist.
The first half sounded grating to me (and not in a good way) with the only relief being Sound and Vision. The second half improved greatly, especially with Warszawa. I could imagine these songs as an epic score for an 70s sci-fi film. Unfortunately, I'm not the biggest fan of listening to movie soundtracks in my free time.
First Sinatra album! It was enjoyable and upbeat. I found it a bit repetitive though I may be spoiled by 21st century music. I'll probably use this as background music in the future
Almost a five but there were a couple songs, like "what is this feeling", that I just couldn't feel. His voice and the melodies are fantastic! Specifically, "Old time lovin'" to "how can you mend a broken heart" goes crazy.
Objectively it's probably closer to a three, but I didn't fully jive with it and I don't see myself listening to the album again. Some of the songs did cheer me up and make me laugh in traffic this morning which is quite the feat. I'm intrigued to listen to other albums by The Smiths.
Accidentally listened to one of his live albums called Fats Domino first, then listened to This is Fats Domino. At least both were enjoyable!
Usually don't go for live albums, but I enjoyed this one
Really good, the only real miss for me was Stone Free because of that maddening cowbell. The distortion, especially on on Third Stone From The Sun and Are You Experienced? is euphoric.
I used to listen to this and Electric Ladyland while driving around the mountains to go skiing (great driving albums). One time I picked up a hitchhiker, I never had but for some reason I was inspired to, while listening to Electric Ladyland. He asked me if I was listening to Hendrix and then played the air drums and head banged for the next 15 minutes until I dropped him off in town. Music truly does bring people together.
1.5. I expected it to be more hardcore
Middle of the road album for me. Grizzly Bear can captures moods and feelings perfectly in certain songs, but it's also easy for me to get tired of their melancholic and cluttered style
I haven't listened to much country from the 60s and 70s but the times I have I enjoy it. Same goes for this album. Also, weirdly the story of Joseph and the coat of many colors was one of the more memorable biblical stories from my childhood
3.5, banger after banger, just needs more screaming
I love Otis and his influence on most of the music I listen to, but I felt a bit bored throughout this album. The songs picked up for me in the end with My Girl and Satisfaction. I think I enjoy listening to his individual classics like Sitting on the Dock, Try a Little Tenderness, and Cigarettes and Coffee rather than sitting through a full album.
Great chill vibes to have on in the background, already added some of the songs to a playlist. The vocals, when used, matched the atmosphere of the instrumentals well especially on Sparks and Poor Leno.
The Beach Boys are in a league of their own. I've listened to them since my dad would play their albums on long car rides, I mostly enjoyed singing along to Barbara Ann back then lol. I love the epic orchestral feel and innovative synthy production. Someone described their sound as church hymns for teenagers once. I would agree, minus the mind numbing boredom I experienced listening to hymns growing up (exaggerating a bit).
Good stuff
The first half of the album was a bit slow and meh for me besides the first song. The second half of the album from deepwater to threads is a 5 with Machine Gun being the peak. The haunting vocals, creative drums and eerie synth noises create a series of songs that feel like they were designed to put the listener into a state of anxious trance. Until you abruptly wake up to the sirens at the end of threads
Great! I grew up to my dad playing CSN on the guitar
Amazing beats! Go go pop was a stand out. I looked for a while to find the credits for the "everybody rock" vocal sample or singer, but couldn't find anything. Overall would rate it a bit higher but the flow of the lyrics did not stand the test of time imo. They reminded me of the classic line "My name is ___ and I'm here to say"
Really pleasant stuff. I might be starting to get rock music outside of what I've already heard. The highlight was hearing where the That 70s Show theme came from
Love this one, reminds me of summer time grillin' on the farm
This would be a 5 if they could have used a WellSaid voice for Fitter Happier. No surprises was incredible, but ridiculously sad like most of the album.
Brings back bad memories of aggro middle school guys who loved Korn
