+++ girls, paul revere --- she’s crafty, slow ride one of my moms favorite albums at all time, and i love it just the same. girls sticks out the most to me, it was my FAVORITE as a kid, and as an adult its such an immense guilty pleasure. the whole album conjures memories from childhood for me, from walking to school listening to the whole album on my ipod shuffle, to making bag ice cream with my classmates screaming brass monkey, to my mom rapping the whole of paul revere on my eighth grade trip. even my least favs are absolutely fantastic. one of the best albums of all time imo. MMMM DROP.

+++ wherever i may roam, of wolf and man --- the unforgiven, nothing else matters i’ve never been in love with metallica’s sound. everything is showy and impressive, but because they have inspired so much and ARE so foundational im a little bored by them because i’ve heard so much of the same thing. despite that, i’ve always loved their lyrics and despite how much i don’t click with the music it is like. objectively impressive. i do enjoy the heavier stuff quite a bit more.

+++ crystalized, infinity --- heart skipped a beat, night time somewhat familiar with this one (thanks mom). every song i already knew i knew for a reason, they're some of the best of the album. intro is so instantly recognizable, and infinity was a sleeper for me in how much i loved it despite never hearing it before. the low points aren’t even that low, just feel more generically 2010 indie than the rest.

+++ rockafeller skank, kalifornia --- in heaven, praise you very mixed feelings about this one. i dont hate anything, and the songs i like i LOVE, but the ones i don’t i feel purely indifferent towards. in heaven grates a bit. the backing track sounds like the loop of an annoying toy, but the songs that lean away from strings and more towards the d+b or electronic side of things are utterly fantastic. praise you, despite being the most famous track from this and the only one i had heard before, is honestly kind of lacklustre next to everything else in my opinion.

+++ help yourself, save me --- water with the wine, people the first album i’ve encountered that was completely unfamiliar to me. the slower songs really shined, her voice reminds me of folk singers moreso than rock or disco oddly. norma tanega specifically comes to mind.

+++ 9-9 --- pilgrimage not much to say about this one. its fine background music but when i pay attention it just makes me want to listen to depeche mode or tmbg instead.

+++ skunk, get over here --- fuck shit up, love all of me never judge a book by its fucking cover! wasn’t particularly excited for this, assumed based off the album art it was something more akin to the decemberists for some reason, was SO pleasantly surprised when the album opened with shrieking. one of those albums im glad i didnt get my hands on earlier because i wouldve been SO annoying.

➕otherside, porcelin ➖get on top, easily another mainstay in my life and memories. my mom and sister adore rhcp, and i know so many more songs from this album than i thought i did. its odd because i feel like i SHOULDNT like them, but i find myself singing along a lot. maybe its the nostalgia. the first half of the album is a LOT more memorable than the second though.

➕ego agogo, south of the border ➖angels, old before i die oh my god its the ape. coming back to this several months after i initially received this. i kind of understand why he isn’t popular in america. the lyrics are fun and have substance but the sound is so…. toothless? every song kind of sounds like a montage in one of those late 90s early 00s teen shakespeare adaptations. LOVE this album cover though.

➕the headmaster ritual, rusholme ruffians ➖nowhere fast, barbarism begins at home this is the smiths album ive listened to the least, and maybe its because of the relative novelty of it but it might be my favorite? even my least favorite were fantastic…

➕ till there was you ➖ it wont be long, please mister postman kind of feels like a cheap imitation of music that was popular 5-3 years prior. not an impossible album to listen to but hard to find anything i actually enjoyed.

➕chocolate cake, italian plastic ➖there goes god, how will you go/i’m still here kind of generically good. something i could hear in like. your moms friends sandwich shop. tomato soup and a grilled cheese

➕super stupid, back in our minds ➖can you get to that, you and your folks, me and my folks lots of noises happening with this one! really really loved the extended fart sequence in the last song. in all seriousness this is one of the albums i wasn’t surprised at all to see. first time listening to it all the way through though. also obviously have to mention that this is one of the greatest album covers of all time.

➕heaven or las vegas, frou-frou foxes in midsummer fires ➖NOTHING!!!!! one of my favorite albums of all time, truly. had almost everything saved already, and its a JOY to revisit. its the album i always put on the jukebox at bars….

➕ black shuck, get your hands off my woman. ➖love is only a feeling, stuck in a rut what the hell. sure. like a man who sounds like a woman. metal in the same way la croix is fruit.
