Superfly by Curtis Mayfield
Jan 10 2025

Loved cocaine song; super funky album, great singing, some songs were ok, the album gets a little repetitive toward the middle but there’s great highlights. Think is amazing, the instruments are simply beautiful. Really groovy and soulful album; superfly is a good song as well. On my initial listen: 7/10 or 3.5/5.

NEU! 75 by Neu!
Jan 11 2025

Really promising start; ISI is great ambient rock, good pianos, and drums. The guitar on seeland is amazing, great bass, and great atmosphere. Great outside atmosphere, piano on Leb’ wohl. Interesting vocals on Hero, ok instrumental, overall I didn’t really like the song. E-Musik is repetitive and the sound quality is weird, pretty decent tho; nice groove. Interesting section at the end, with the slowed down voice. Really interesting choice for the ending track. Overall, very ambient and atmospheric rock album, initial listen: 8/10 or 4/5

Jan 12 2025

Insanely groovy intro with great samples, love this track first listen. Rebirth has great drums. Somewhat repetitive choruses but groovy drums, truss it somewhat dragged on too long but still was really good. I don’t wanna be called yo is fire, the best one so far. The next two have great beats, and political messages. It got slightly weaker towards the very end, but it was still enjoyable. Liked 1 million bottle bags. This album is great for its production and message, initial listen: 8.5/10 or 4.25/5.

Frank by Amy Winehouse
Jan 14 2025

Smooth beats, highlights Amy’s soulful vocals, on some parts the beats are too empty and don’t compliment her. Definitely a listen again; F me pumps is amazing, cheery but about a depressing subject; perfectly shows her talent and songwriting. I heard love is blind has a great beat and songwriting. Halfway through the album I think it shares the same problem as Pure Heroine: a lot of the production sounds too similar, there is no real apparent change. However, the albums consistency saves it from becoming boring. In my beds ending is amazing and one of the highlights on the album. Amy really finds her footing in the later half of the album; great instrumentals and singing. Great album, it does meld together a bit, initial listen: 8.5/10 or 4.25/5.

The Bends by Radiohead
Jan 15 2025

I have no listening notes; this album has an amazing sound and the more time you invest in it, the more rewarding it is. It really is a great album with amazing songs on it. 10/10 or 5/5 but I still need to go back and listen to it a couple more times.

The Beach Boys Today! by The Beach Boys
Jan 16 2025

While the album sounds dated, its sound is one that has potential to withstand the test of time. Great chorus on the first song; the voice is nice too with the beat highlighting it. The first track ultimately sets the rest of the album, it’s a great rock ballad and is one of my favs right off the bat. Love the jubilant feel so far of the album. She knows me too well is a great song and another fav. The second half of this album is amazing. Initial listen: 9/10 or 4.5/5.

Either Or by Elliott Smith
Jan 19 2025

I feel like this album grows on you, it has a great indie lofi rock sound and he has a great quiet voice that is also loud. Speed trials is a great song and a highlight on the album. My favorite track was Punch and Judy, the instrumental perfectly complemented his voice. Initial rating: 9/10 or 4.5/5

Tical by Method Man
Jan 20 2025

I liked it, the production does meld together but there are highlights. The title track was good and was prob my favorite. The production was great but it does blend together similar to Pure Heroine by Lorde. Initial listen: 7/10 or 3.5/5.

Remain In Light by Talking Heads
Jan 23 2025

Insanely polarizing and weird start to the album, but it is groovy; love the chorus on this track. I appreciated the bass on the second track, the panning strange one shot guitars were also interesting. The chorus was really good. The guitar in The Great Curve is fantastic and the percussion is great too. This definitely is an album that has to grow on you through multiple listens. The chorus on Once in A Lifetime is amazing, but the lead vocalists shouty vocals detract from it. Seen and not seen has a great background surrounding it, but the spoken word vocals do not help the song. Listening Wind is a highlight on the album, it has less energy and allows space to focus on the lyrics and the meaning of the song. While The Overload is a departure from the rest of the high energy and frantic performances seen on the album, it is still very interesting and ominous. Personally, I think this is the weakest track on the album but it is still a good song and it ties the album together. Initial Listen: 7.5/10 or 3.75/5.

2112 by Rush
Jan 25 2025

Great opening track, loved the second half starting with discovery. The rest of the tracks seemed to be detached from the narrative but they were bangers. Lessons was a great song and Tears is my favorite song off the album. Honestly a good listen and I definitely need to revisit it a couple of times. Initial listen: 8.5/10 or 4.25/5

21 by Adele
Jan 28 2025

Huge part of my childhood, love Adele. Rolling in the Deep has an amazing chorus and production; Rumour Has It is great as well. Don’t You Remember has a key change (I believe) and it overall enhances the song. Set Fire to the Rain is amazing; the beginning, the chorus, and her vocal performance are highlights. He Won’t Go is the weakest of the first half of the album; its bare but it still has a decent chorus. Take It All is similarly bare but has a heartfelt vocal performance from Adele and a great piano part. I’ll be Waiting is a return to a more broad and grand style that was seen in the earlier half of the album; the piano is super groovy and the drum beat is as well. One and Only is sweet; need to listen it more, I can barely remember the chorus. Lovesong is ok. Someone like you is great with a memorable chorus and production. The last track is ok but fitting the album’s themes. Overall the album highlights Adele’s voice, even if it is somewhat inconsistent with the quality of the tracks, it’s still enjoyable. Initial listen: 8/10 or 4/5.

Back to Basics by Christina Aguilera
Jan 29 2025

Instantly the production stands out, it definitely reminds me of hip-hop and her voice is pretty. Makes me wanna pray had a great beat and her voice definitely is great on this track. Back in the day has somewhat of a corny and unimportant subject matter; however good production and voice. Ain’t no mother has a great chorus and production. Oh mother is good too and On Our Way is good too. A main flaw of this album is that it has no strong theme connecting every track and that every track blends together with a few highlights. She has good production, chorus writing abilities, and voice; she needs to have actual substance and theme now. 2nd disk has a stronger theme and has more unique songs, but weaker production and vocal performance; she has the opposite of her problem now. Hurt is really good. Save Me from Myself is not good. Overall, a decent album; she clearly has talent and hit making abilities, it’s just that there is too many similar tracks with not enough of a strong central theme. Initial listen: 6/10 or 3/5.

Phrenology by The Roots
Jan 30 2025

Good rapping over strange beats; will have to revisit. Initial listen: 7/10 or 3.5/10.

Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys
Feb 01 2025

I had an absolutely long written review for this but I just deleted it. This album can’t be expressed in words it’s so beautiful. It captures an intense feeling of childhood innocence while delving into adult topics. Amazing instrumentation. Initial listen: 10/10??? or 5/5.

High Violet by The National

Initial Listen: 7.5/10 or 3.75/5, need to relisten again.
