track one: imagine - i have a complicated relationship with this song, as part of me resents it from the whole only a fool would say that/"working class hero" that rightfully acknowledges lennon's privilege; but it's also a beautifully composed, lovely sentiment. i'd give it a 7/10 track two: crippled inside - meh; weird accent from john here. i feel like he was really going for paul's nachos here, both in the whimsy of the composition and the attempt at angst in the lyrics - also too long. not very good, but i liked the breakdown at the end. 5/10 track three: jealous guy - infamous as hell but quite a nice listen. 6.5/10 track four: it's so hard - i like this one actually. classic lennon and it, doesn't overstay its welcome. 6.5/10 track five: i don't wanna be a soldier mama - getting too close to cultural appropriation for comfort here; #awkward. but unfortunately the song is quite good, and sort of experimental! 7/10 track six: gimme some truth - i love this song, reminds me of my best friend so i will not be objective about it! pretty good. 7.25/10 track seven: oh my love - so sweet and pretty, now he's gunning for harrison's nachos and they suit him far better. favourite so far! 7.8/10 track eight: how do you sleep - just okay sonically, paul ate him up, tooo long. also should've been earlier in the album, as it breaks up the flow between oh my love, how?, and oh yoko! which would be so nice and seamless otherwise. 5/10 track nine: how? - i like this! very nice, exemplifies john's strengths as a musician! 8/10 track ten: oh yoko! - loveeee this one so dearly! dare i say 8.5/10? final rating: 7.25/10

I can't believe I've never listened to this one in full before; as an Ottawa girl I apologize to her personally. Great album, Head Over Feet, All I Want, Forgiven, and Right Through You were definite standouts for me (+ You Oughta Know), of course. Ironic, despite putting Alanis on the map, is her sonic and lyrical weakest on the album in my opinion. Did not expect so much harmonica. All around great record, 8/10

I earnestly think gloria (in excelsis deo) is one of the best songs of all time, am also a big fan of free money, kimberly, land: horses/1000 dances/mer, and her version of my generation were excellent!! massive massive fan of this album; i think shes so brilliant and so raw and was apart of that pantheon of women that really made me feel seen for what i was into and who i wanted to be like (alongside other musicians like pj harvey, fiona apple, justine frischmann, courtney love, tina turner etc etc) all around soo boundary pushing and incredible.

as someone who plays bass, i've been obsessed with the opening basslines on bombtrack and take the power back since like grade nine, and as someone who's been varying degrees of leftist my whole life, i'd been obsessed with this album since like grade seven. all around has aged better than i expected, and i find it impressive how effectively they balanced their intellectual and political ethos-crammed lyrics with really cool instrumentals and production; kind of the thinking man's beastie boys. all around though, the tracklist feels like it's retreading the same formula a lot of the time - but these are punctuated by these really cool, almost slint-esque experimental moments. my fav tracks would be settle for nothing, wake up, bombtrack and killing in the name of! probably about a 7-8/10 for me.

Was so surprised to see this on the list because I had no idea it was the object of any degree of prestige - it's permanently entrenched in tumblr and indie sleaze-oriented scenes to me - but I am very very glad to see it here. The album is brilliantly composed, cleverly written, and the definition of all killer, no filler. solid 4.5/5 but i'll round up.

very cool album and so incredibly influential of everything that came after it, but it sort of blended together for me a tad. even still, undeniably brilliant, and i love the production style it introduced

suchhhh a brilliant album, i love the sound of the guitars on this so much it's unreal. this listen i really made an effort to appreciate the lyricism holistically - have come to the conclusion that billy corgan is a genius. fav tracks: mayonaise, spaceboy, today, soma, silverfuck, cherub rock, quiet, geek usa!

I really enjoyed this album, thought it was so beautiful! Reminded me a bit of Red House Painters if that makes sense :)

Fairly okay! Def the most unique I’ve heard so far

I've always vocally hated ABBA but this actually kind of rules. The title track is fun and experimental, and on every song they're firing on all cylinders vocally and instrumentally, though that sort of slips into tacky phil collins territory after a while! i will say I can't see any track by this band having any significant replay value for me, as all of the tracks I've heard before struck me as sort of annoying - its strength is in its novelty i suppose! good album but really just not my thing... and i loathe the movie mamma mia so bad and i just needed to get that off my chest before concluding

really interesting fusion of genres but both get a bit meandering at times because buckley is rlly the best at neither of them tbh!! like okay wow u combined your decent folk music with subpar attempts at jazz, fair play man - an argument against cultural appropriation if there ever was one. liked buzzin' fly and love from room 109; gypsy woman was rainforest cafe bullshit. i would not classify this album as one you "must hear before you die" at all tbh!
