The Doors
The DoorsEnjoyable enough, but I found the lyrics to most songs odd or slightly offputting. Rock before it became hard rock (soft rock?) isn't my favorite genre, but The End was a decent song.

Loved the bass in this album. Mayfield's commentary about the times they're living through juxtaposed with some cool songs about living and loving despite it all is neat. My favorite song was Billy Jack, it's the type of song I'd hear in my high school art class from my favorite teacher where I'd promptly take it with me through life.
Starts off incredibly strong with Death on Two Legs, probably my favorite song on the album. It's too cliche to say Bohemian Rhapsody is my favorite, although if you don't like that song you can lick my boot. The Prophet's Song is another hard-hitter, but I found the unpredictability of where the song takes you to be somewhat disorienting. This album is a real blend of different sounds, which doesn't feel super cohesive to me, but goddammit it's Queen so it's pretty fantastic anyway. Giving it three stars because I didn't like more than a couple of songs, but overall very easy to listen to and starting to lean into the type of music I enjoy.
I don't think I like The Smiths. They have yet to prove me wrong. Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me was a great song, but it can't save the rest of the album from the weirdness. I LOVE the light springiness of the acoustic guitar in most of these songs however, it's just that "The Smiths" vibe may not be for me.
I was not expecting fully instrumental so soon, but this was nice to listen to. Not much more than that, for me. Sounds like a soundtrack to a coffeeshop though, which was enjoyable to have on in the background while doing other things.
Daft Punk if they were shit?
Her voice is just gorgeous. I added two songs to my coffeeshop playlist, and enjoyed listening to the album. Most songs weren’t memorable, which is why I can’t reasonably rate over a 3, but I liked Smooth Operator and Cherry Pie the most!
The worst garage band to ever do it. I'm not sure this can legally be classified as music actually.
La Grange and Waitin' for the Bus had me headbopping. For me, the rock/blues genre pre-80s doesn't hit quite as hard as, well, hard rock, but it is enjoyable to listen to. Also the few live songs at the end of the album have me convinced about live music sounding better a majority of the time. Give those a listen if you didn't. I feel like I need to eventually stop being so critical and give something a 4. Not today though.
Slightly better than the last Smiths album but wow, I don't think I like Morrissey's voice at all. It sounds like he has a toad in the back of his throat at all times. I found myself slightly enjoying.. parts.. of songs, but didn't have one I could listen to all the way through without cringing.
If Stevie Nicks and that one choir lady from church fused into an artist. It's not my thing, but I can tell she's talented and it didn't make me sad like some previous artists have.
Couldn't really find a song on here that I'd listen to again. The vocalist is great, and I can tell the band members have talent, but each song feels slightly unpolished like they just said "go wild" in the studio and released 12 songs with that vibe. Listenable, but I'd rather hear Pearl Jam/Nirvana/RHCP.
I have NEVER heard music like this and I really enjoyed it. He is an amazing guitar player, and I've had Bonde stuck in my head for the last day or so. It's the first album in this challenge that actually made me feel something when listening, and I have also learned a bit about Malian culture through this album, so it's a win for culture.
Eh. Mostly unenjoyable and unmemorable.
Her debut album! Although there's no doubt that her voice is amazing, I can't say I'm in love with the affect she uses at times. "What Is It About Men" is easily my favorite song on the album. I'll be excited to listen to Back to Black when we eventually get there.
