This review was written after the first listening: nice album but i guess it could have been better...? I find it a bit long, the production is good but lacks of intensity for me. Of course it's clean, it's Marvin Gaye we are talking about. Maybe it's one of those album you need to listen a few times to like/love it - to see the truly charm of it. I think I can put 'Here, My Dear' (the album, not the song) on the background while doing something else, i will enjoy it, but I will not listen to it if I want to truly listen to music (does it make sense?). Again, I usually don't give a review right away (only when I'm sure I truly understand an album) so I don't believe my opinion is right or perfect in any way. I need 2/3 listening often but whatever... This album is long so, I'm not sure I will listening to it again right away. But it's still a very nice record.
not really my cup of tea actually. it sounds too much like Nirvana but it's not bad i guess, just not for me and that's okay:)
Okay wasn't expecting to enjoy it but I did??? I never listen to country music but when I do I somehow like the atmosphere:))
not my kind of thing so i don't really know
there are songs i could listen to, but not the whole thing. When it's Noise Pop, it's clearly not for me... I just hear the 'noise' part and not the pop part unfortunately.
it’s ok…
Is it my kind of my music? - Yes! Definitely. Did I listened to it entirely? - Of course, no problem at all. Would I listen to it one more time? - Yeah, I could totally. Not sure when, but it could happen. Not sure if it will. ______________________________________ So, I liked it! I won't say it's one of those life changing album either, but I had a great time listening to it. It was pleasant, and I did not skip any songs. I was doing something else and wasn't begging the album to end which is a good start I guess. Maybe I should add I did... not listened to the expanded version, only the original (I don't think I know this band enough to listen to the expanded version). It was nice but I don't have much to say either because this is not... well... surprising? They used a formula that works and it fits it so yeah but there are not a lot of risks? Maybe I should listen again, just in case.
Never was a big fan of Bruce Springsteen’s (voice)… but I like the production of the songs here
See, this is exactly why I wanted to do this

Really mitiged about this one. Some songs are really really great! On the other hand, I wanted some to end so badly because it wasn't my cup of tea at all/ I didn't like the voice of the singer (or the way he sang). Some songs have such a great production nevertheless...! I must add, I didn't listen to the 'Collector's Edition'. Just the original one, what came out in 1988... Not like I don't have the strength to listen to it during two hours but... Yeah, no actually. I might pass. I'm maybe going to say something really mean but my first thought was 'oh, is this cheap Talking Heads?' I'm sorry lol. I guess maybe it's the voice of the singer...? Maybe mostly on the first songs of the album. But overall, it wasn't that bad (I don't think being 'a cheap Talking Heads' band is a bad thing at all), I really liked Country Song ; Brain Dead & Lazyitis - I added those songs right away in my liked songs. Still a nice album after all, I'll relisten to it one day, I'm sure!
No need to listen, it’s The Beatles and it’s in my soul
Is it my kind of my music? - No, not really. Did I listened to it entirely? - Yes... but I had to listen to something else on the halfway of the album [oops]. ______________________________________ Overall, it wasn't that bad at the start, but then I just wanted it to end. I won't say it was bad but it wasn't absolutely divine either (at least for me, I'm nobody to judge anyone music tastes). It's just not my type of music and I accept it. Some songs are really not that bad actually! But for others, I just wanted them to end quickly but they felt so looong. And at some points, all the songs sounded similar to me, or almost. So, I must apologize. This is probably a biased review since it's not my thing. The truth is, I thought at first I could like it (I know some songs of Aphex Twin already - I was expecting songs similar to 'April 14th') but I guess not! ~~~ Random idea: making a cyberpunk movie with those songs. or a sci-fi movie. I can picture that (hey, i'm trying my best to say something nice about this album!).
Imagine rating this album less than 5 stars? Couldn’t be me. I stopped counting how many times I’ve listened to this masterpiece. Rating this album is almost useless. Writing a review about it even more. Not in a way “oh god this album is so fucking bad” but because it’s a true and real masterpiece, a lot of people know about it alreadt too. It’s like rating water. It’s useless. Because you and I already know what it is. How it taste. How useful it is. Yeah, useless. And if you don’t know, you might live in a cave (we’re still talking about water here.. Or are we?). Okay, but let’s still try. We’ll try. I need to write something interesting. The cover is as iconic as the songs. The songs are absolute gems. It is nor too long nor too short. It is perfect. The making of this album is also a very interesting story (like many from this period). This album has different songs and they all complete each others. Pink Floyd is an iconic band. To me it’s impossible to dislike this album, but I guess hey everyone is different and it’s ok! Free will is still a thing then so it’s great! (I'm serious about it. really) You know what. I just realised (while writing this review) that 'The Great Gid in the Sky' is only composed of five sentences. I never realised that. Wow. Okay. Mind blown. It doesn't feel like it. Congrats! Is there anything else I could say? No. As I said, nobody is writing long essay about water (or maybe they are, but you get what I mean). Then, there is no need for this review to be endless. We'll stop it there, alright with you? Okay, then, see ya!
I have to admit it now : it was my first Rolling Stones album. Yep... I know... As much as I love The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Pink Floyd... I never loved that much The Stones to listen to one of their release entirely. I just stopped to their hits/singles. Pretty embarassing when you tell everyone you 'only like Classic Rock'! I don't know why, I never really was interested by them, by their music. But the 1001 Album Generator proposed to me Aftermath (UK), I had to give it a try then! What could happen anyways? So I was a bit septical at first. I truly had no idea what I was going after/was expecting... But it turned out I liked Aftermath! I actually listened to it two times already (well, almost). So then I thought 'why did I never get the time to listen to them?' and there is why: as much as I love the production of theirs songs, I'm not much fan of Mick Jagger's voice. I will almost say his voice is rather unpleasant at first. At first. Then, I overpassed it and I think I understand what this album has! But, why would you sing a song named 'Stupid Girl'? I know it was a long time ago, but still... It's weird. And I find 'Goin' Home' way too long, and I don't find the song very interesting either (it just repeats himself again and again and again...). I read somewhere it was the longest song at the time, interesting. In the end, I think Aftermath (UK Version) is worth to listen to. There are some great tunes: Lady Jane is very nice, and I always loved Under My Thumb!
Why is it so... blank? I was just waiting for the album to end to be honest. Neither I liked the singer's voice nor I liked the songs. The production is... Well, this is the thing: there is none, or at least it feels like it. Maybe it's not that bad, I'm just not in the mood. But I doubt it. I often dislike album or some parts of it. But there...? I have absolutely nothing to say about it. The songs seemed to never really start! Maybe this album just lacks of (good) ideas. Sure, it's not that bad, but there is nothing 'new'. Just blankness... Like, what is the style of this album? Rock? Country? It seems close to them but is never part of them. Maybe I'm too harsh. I just don't understand. I (probably) won't relisten...
I just realised why I (often) like folk/country songs. The violin. The violins!!! How they are used in those types of music!! I freaking LOVE it! It's just so cool and fun. And here, it didn't miss. This album is pretty cool. I don't often listen to this kind of music, but maybe I should do it more often. It's a perfect album if you're driving, I guess (I don't know, I don't have my licence actually). At the same time, it's really great but is there really something... new? But I don't mean it in a bad way (for once)! It's cool, it works, so why should we need more, really? Again, I'm not really familiar with the genre but I really liked it. This music really screams to me: USA! (I live in Europe, so it's not... common?). This is really how I expect The US to be (well, at least Texas). The only 'bad' thing I can say is that I'm not a big fan of the singer's voice. As often, I have a problem with voices, I guess. But I don't hate it either! There are also songs I liked less but I mean, don't we all? Not a big fan of 'The Stolen Child'... I think I'll need to relisten to Fisherman's Blues to enjoy it even more. I might do that in the future!
Well I guess it wasn't for me. It's not I hated it, I just felt... Yeah nothing. Maybe I should just admit I don't like punk music. Because I never really do anyways.... The only song I (really) liked was Marquee Moon, and at some points I thought the song was too long... And I don't recall any other songs... Like it DEFINITELY WASN'T BAD but not something I would listen to every days. It's just too "blank" for me, I guess. Sometimes I wish I wasn't so complicated in music, for real!
My level of enjoyement during listening to this album: close to zero. BUT I obviously still understand why people like this album. I will NEVER say an album is bad I will always say it's not for me. Because it's true: every album is for someone but no album is made for everyone. I almost feel bad giving bad rating to albums since it's not made for me. That being said, "1001 albums you must hear before you die" makes me realise how difficult I am in term of music. I feel like I hate absolutely everything. I either find albums too difficult, too experimental or either too blank and boring. This album is definitely in the first category. It's way too experimental for me, I don't find any melody nice on it. I always listen to the albums entirely, because why not, but this one was hard to finish. I was working while listening so at least I was 'forced' to listen. What did I just listen? Is it even music? Because it felt just like some random noises. And obviously I recently found out I'm not a big fan of punk so... Difficult for me. But anyways...! Maybe one day I'll like it. Who knows?
