Similar style to Bitches Brew, but I like this better for some reason…less meandering(?)
The guitar on the back half is perfect.
More than 3, less than 4 stars on this.
Cool live album. Killer energy in some spots, drags in others.
Boring. Anything remotely cool was cut short/interrupted by bad decisions (production, performance, or otherwise)
Generally unoffensive hard rock, rendering it completely useless.
This makes all other, popular folk artists of the 70’s makes sense (“oh! that’s what they were trying to do”)
Huge blueprint for a lot of music to come. Feels like a reaction to Donovan (whom I really enjoy) without the whimsy.
Probably more like a 3.72 star.
Production missing an edge to hold my interest. Cool vocal harmonies on some tracks. End Of The World is honestly he standout. Honorable mention to King Of Birds.
I didn’t need the Apple Jam material.
Best outward expression of introspection. Right place and right time for me.
It’s good.
Listened to it too much as a lad, so it’s lost a lot of impact. Bass lines still stood out (in a good way) in both terms of writing and production.
My old copy didn’t have Endless Nameless, so this was my first listen….🤷🏻♀️
Top track: Lounge Act
There’s a lot of things that can hit me in the “feels” on this record. Then there are things I really don’t need on this record. A great introduction to the artist, but proceed with caution.
All good. Most pretty same-y.
Didn’t do a whole lot for me, but the closing of “All the Nasties” caught my attention and was pretty cool.
2.7 / 5
It rocks. I rolled my eyes and sighed at the beginning of some tracks because if their ubiquity or obvious blues-rock formula but quickly found myself tapping my toes. Done just right. Not my fave LZ album though.
Smart, and funny…exhaustingly. The intelligence and humor are too disconnected. The musicality would be better served in a more conventional context, and would make it easier to get a crossed the point he’s trying to make.
Cool sounds though.
2.5/5
listening to the first two tracks you get the feeling that they’ve still got it and this is something really worthwhile… then Maxwell’s Silver Hammer comes on.
Really love the harmonies on Because, and I guess some of the vocal performances on side-2 are pretty outstanding. there are some well placed unconventional sounds throughout. i’m not real big on how the album closes, but like it better as a whole as opposed to by song basis.
