I absolutely love this style of music - but, as with many good things, you can have too much. And for me, an album of bubblegum surf-pop is a little deadening to the joy of it, like binging 4 Wes Anderson movies in a row. (To be fair, the half-way shift helps this, and so does the nice addition of the final track.)

Interesting layered sound. Knew and loved 'Black Tambourine' already - but also particularly enjoyed 'Farewell Ride' (the slide guitar) and 'Send a Message to Her'.

The tone is just exquisite, with such a loose, rangy, epic feel. Perfectly orchestrated too - like Bob Dylan (in this era) but with more gifted vocals. Instant favourite.

Maybe not my usual style of music, but operatic and OTT in the best way.

Joyous. Any album with Living for the City on it would be worth 5 stars, but this is backed up with so many other bangers.

Oddly enough, the main thing that came to mind (with the spoken intonations) was Maggot Brain - but where that album/track is ethereal and hypnotic and kinda sexy, I just found this interminable. I tried to get through as much as I could...
